Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Brighton, UT

Mineral Basin Dispersed camping allows pets with primitive sites suitable for tents, spread along dirt roads in the Wasatch Mountains east of Salt Lake City. This free camping area provides secluded spots with established fire rings but no developed amenities - no drinking water, electric hookups, toilets, or trash service. Early June access can be challenging with road closures past the ski resort. ATV traffic creates significant noise, particularly on weekends and holidays, with riders starting as early as 8am. The area fills quickly on summer weekends with campers seeking quick getaways from nearby cities.

Pine Creek Campground in Wasatch Mountain State Park offers a more developed pet-friendly experience with full hookup sites for RVs and cabins. Clean bathrooms with warm showers, electrical outlets at picnic tables, and water at each site accommodate campers with pets. The campground features three distinct loops: one for tents, one for medium trailers, and one for large trailers. Separated by tall bushes, the sites provide reasonable privacy despite proximity to neighbors. Located near two reservoirs with multiple hiking trails, the park provides excellent outdoor activities for dogs and owners. Wildlife sightings include wild turkeys, deer, and occasionally wolf pups, so keeping dogs leashed is essential for safety. The campground's location near Midway and Heber City offers convenient access to emergency vet services if needed.

    Redman Campground

Favorite campground in Big Cottonwood Canyon

Redman has always been one of our favorite campgrounds in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The campsites are clean, the bathrooms are exceptionally clean with flushing toilets, you are a walk or hike away from Brighton and immersed in some of the most beautiful mountains around. We camped there with tents and a Sprinter and it was perfect. Plenty of trees to string up your hammocks. Plenty of sites that are right up against the river.

    Lakeside RV Campground

Cute RV park close to lake Utah

This place is very cute for established camping. It has lots of trees and a nice little walking trail. They are pet friendly. They have men's and women's restrooms with showers. They also have a pool for the warmer months. There are 2 small dog parks one for large and one for small dogs. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

We stayed in a back in spot which was very spacious and we had a good distance from our neighbor.

They have designated tent camping area. If you are tent camping they do not allow you to have pets.

Only downside is you are directly next to the Provo airport which did get active around 6 am.

    Pony Express RV Resort

    RV Heaven

My god-father and mother come into town yearly and stay at this location in their 5th wheel. The facility is spotless! Seriously, the staff keep the entire grounds in great condition. There are dozens and dozens of spots that fit just about any size RV or 5th wheel. Every spot has water and electric hookups, picnic tables, and enough grass space to setup pet pens.

There are several different amenities including a pool, playground for the kids, life-size chessboard, and a mini-breed dog park!

    Riverside RV Resort

    Very New

It is a lovely place. Nice patch of grass at the site. River and walking trail just steps away from all sites. Would be nice if the dog park was finished. There are other amenities that are planned to be available, but are not available yet. It is a very pretty place with the mountain backdrop. Lovely sunrises and sunsets. Beautiful.

    Miner's Canyon Dispersed

    Spacious, and easy to find

I didn't give Miner's Canyon five stars because of the excessive trash dumping that occurs at the sites. Otherwise it is a very enjoyable campsite. Spacious enough that your neighbors are distant, and quiet for the most part. Larger RVs occasionally run generators which can be noisy. The last time I camped there some folks buried their dead cat down by the water access. This seems to be somewhat common as there are two other pet graves located nearby. This dispersed camp is definitely haunted by house pets.

    Salt Lake City KOA

    Urban campground convenient to SLC

We wanted to explore Salt Lake City so decided to stay at this downtown KOA. It is a large and crowded RV park but right on a Transit line (UTA light rail Trax) and biking distance to downtown. The facilities are older but clean. Standard Holiday amenities like pool, dog park, dog wash, basketball court. We’d stay again if I wanted to be close to downtown.

    Mountain Valley RV Resort

    Friendly and immaculate

This spacious RV park has two pools (one limited to adults only), two dog parks (one large enough for big dogs to run and fetch), two sets of pickle ball courts and is spacious and level and nice/ oh, my.

The staff are friendly and lead you to your RV site (and actually collected and filled and delivered our propane tanks). They have a few cabins but are mostly laid out for newer RVs. They ask the age and type when making reservations. Good Sam discounts apply. This is a very nice “the only 5 star “ RV Park in Utah.

Guide to Brighton

Jordanelle State Park offers pet-friendly camping near Brighton, Utah with sites at 6,000 feet elevation. The campground sits along the eastern Wasatch Front, featuring variable weather patterns with afternoon thunderstorms common in summer months. Fall temperatures drop significantly at night, often reaching below freezing by late September even when daytime highs remain comfortable.

What to do

Hiking with dogs: At Timpooneke Campground, access the trailhead for Mount Timpanogos where dogs on leash can accompany hikers. "Timpooneke is beautiful. High elevation (7400ft) campground up the popular Alpine Loop. Near hiking trails and reservoirs (no motor sports)," notes Andrea P.

Fishing opportunities: The Salt Lake City KOA provides convenient access to urban fishing spots. "Solid KOA campground with all the amenities you would expect including a pool and spa. Location of the campground is near the downtown area," explains Daniel C., making it easier to reach multiple fishing locations.

Water recreation: Silver Lake Backcountry allows non-motorized watercraft for dogs and owners. "We spent our afternoons paddleboarding on Silver Lake Reservoir," shares Michelle B., noting the calm water conditions ideal for beginners and pets alike.

What campers like

Mountain views: At Little Mill Campground, campers appreciate the natural setting. "We LOVED Little Mill! It's the perfect campground. It has the smell of pine trees, a babbling brook, and it is just down the road from Timpanogos Cave National Monument," Stacy R. reports.

Wildlife encounters: Hailstone Campground at Jordanelle State Park offers wildlife viewing opportunities compatible with leashed pets. "Stayed here for a weekend getaway and loved it. Great place close to SLC and park city and for the most part it was surprisingly quiet," mentions Angie G.

Established fire rings: Many campsites at Granite Flat include established fire rings for evening comfort. "Clean site. Close proximity to the lake and hiking makes it a favorite spot," says Bill S., highlighting the well-maintained facilities.

What you should know

Road conditions: Access to Silver Lake Backcountry requires preparation. "You're definitely going to need 4WD and high clearance because the roads leading up to the campsite are filled with ruts and holes," warns Ethan H.

ATV traffic: Most areas near Brighton experience significant off-road vehicle activity during daylight hours. "This weekend was absolute hell of hearing those things ripping up and down the road. Starting at around 8-9am, going till 1-2pm (for lunch I'm assuming) then going right back to it," notes Austin T.

Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly. "Be aware that this campsite reservations for the weekend fill up quick. I checked in late May and every weekend until September was already booked," Ash S. advises about Granite Flat.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Mountain Valley RV Resort provides designated play areas. "This is a great place for kids because there's plenty of space for them to ride bikes, play basketball, swim, and also a playground," explains Sheila B.

Stream exploration: Sites along creeks offer natural entertainment for children and dogs. "We ended up finding a spot off a small spur road which offered privacy and was along a small stream. The flowing water provided some great ambiance and white noise while we slept," Jenny R. describes at Mineral Basin.

Wildlife safety: Always supervise pets around wildlife. "Lots to do on-site. Very popular so the place is full but everyone had great etiquette," Jeremy L. reports, emphasizing the importance of respecting both wildlife and other campers.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking at Park City RV Resort, choose carefully. "There are 4 tiers of spots (the grounds are literally tiered), the top of which are reserved for newer, specific class vehicles. These spots have concrete pads and grass next to them," explains Kristin S.

Water pressure: Check water connections before full hookup. "Great campsite. Clean and nice amenities for a State Park. Be careful hooking up your RV to water. Very high pressure," Trevor S. cautions at Jordanelle State Park.

Winter accessibility: Many campgrounds close seasonally. "You can't drive to the coordinates, you have to park at the uppermost parking lot for Silver Flat and hike up to a camping spot," Cortlan S. notes about early season access before roads open fully.
