Meadow Park houses LaVern M. Johnson Park, a municipal campground managed by the Town of Lyons that sits directly alongside the St. Vrain Creek. The park operates as both a public day-use area and overnight camping facility, with RV sites accommodating rigs up to 55 feet and walk-in tent sites positioned closer to the water. Full hookups provide electric, water, and sewer connections for RVs, while tent campers access sites that require carrying gear from designated parking areas.
The campground functions within an active public park setting where day visitors arrive mid-morning and depart by 8 PM, creating a busy daytime atmosphere that transitions to quieter evenings. Kay S. notes it becomes "very quiet in the morning as public not admitted till mid-morning." The St. Vrain Creek flows directly through the property, though water levels and safety conditions vary seasonally based on snowpack and rainfall. Rock formations frame the camping areas, and wildlife including eagles and black bears frequent the vicinity.
RV sites occupy an open field layout with minimal privacy barriers between spots, while tent sites offer more separation and direct creek access. Amenities include flush toilets, pay showers, and a central gas fire pit that operates until 8 PM. The park features volleyball courts, soccer fields, two playgrounds, a splash pad, and a zip line for children. WiFi is available but reviewers report slow speeds, though 5G cellular service provides an alternative.
Campers must store all food in vehicles due to active bear presence, particularly a 150-pound black bear that visits sites at night. The facility enforces quiet hours and prohibits individual campfires, though the communal fire pit provides a gathering space. Walking distance to downtown Lyons gives campers access to restaurants and shops. For those exploring the broader region, camping spots outside Lyons extend options into the surrounding foothills and plains.
