    Forest Road 169 Campground

Nice secluded spot for when the camping areas closer to the rim are full

The official campgrounds weren’t open for the season yet and the first three camping areas we checked were all full but we got a nice spot at this one. No amenities or anything but we drove over to 9350’s pit toilets in the morning.

Mogollon Rimn Dispersed, AZ FR 9350

    Fantastic Views of the Rim!

Road was slightly rough, but still manageable without a 4WD. Just make sure to drive slowly. Very spacious camp spots & decent phone reception. Only downside was that it was extremely windy at night to the point that it broke one of my poles so my tent collapsed on me, lol. That’s ok because I was looking to buy another tent. Despite that, I look forward to re-visit this area during the summer since the weather should still be pleasant in the daytime. ❤️

Little Green Valley - NF405A Dispersed

    Beautiful and quiet

I actually found this spot from this app. It’s just as wonderful as it sounded. Only 2 drawbacks I’d say are; spots are kinda close but luckily far away enough that you can’t really hear anyone. However, with that being said, the ability to use the restroom without being seen has proven to be very challenging. I’d say that’s the biggest drawback, so next time, I’m definitely bringing my pop up potty tent. But otherwise, no complaints. Weather is perfect, scenery is beautiful, and it’s exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend.

Tonto National Forest Dispersed Camping at Lake Roosevelt

    Beautifull Desert Camping

Found this spot while spending a week at Cholla Campground. At first thought it was closed as the first cluster of campsites were being worked on and had earth moving equipment parked there. Kept driving and the road curved on back towards the mountains. Only found three sites that my 30' TT would fit in. The first two were very rough at the entrance as the road had been recently graded. The last was a pull through. The first entrance had quite a bit of dirt piled up. The second one was level and I was able to back into the site.

The front of my camper faced the mountains and I had a view of Roosevelt Lake out the back. There are free range cattle here but they didn't bother me. Absolutely perfect spot. Someone put quite a bit of work into the fire ring.

Mogollon Rimn Dispersed, AZ FR 9350

One of the best designated free spots on the rim.

I’ve been camping here for the last 10 years and it’s always great, though it has gotten insanely crowded since the 300 got paved.
