    LOVE THIS PLACE!

Sure it’s out in the middle of no where but that’s exactly what we were looking for. We stayed at site 35 on the river & it fit our 70 ft long big rig. The camp host are extremely nice and hospitable! The laundry is currently free! The bugs weren’t to bad. Hot tip- walk over past the dam to the “softball field” and it makes the perfect dog park. We were able to get perfect internet with our Starlink

    Millers Ferry Campground

    Great RV Lakeside Park

Third time at Millers Ferry! Water & electric hook ups . Good water pressure, dump station on property. Our site was paved and easily accommodated our 40 ft Rv/ fifth wheel & Dooley. Each site has a fire ring/with top grate to grill, picnic table, shepherd hook.Bathroom clean another one under construction. Nice playground. $1 for washer and dryer. Lots of sites are gravel as well, but level. Lots of people fish-parking for trucks & trailers at water ramp on property. No dog park, but lots of nature walks and paved roads to walk on. Oh yes, Lots of mosquitoes & ants, bring bug spray for a more pleasant stay! Shopping in town about 15-20 minutes away. Several good restaurants. There is a Piggly Wiggly, True Value Hardware, and Dollar stores. Approx 20-30 min to Walmart, next town over. Public lake for swimming, on site, with playground!

    Prairie Creek Campground

    Some sites better than others.

We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend so it was very busy, even with some rain showers.

We stayed at site 23 for 3 nights. this site is located next to the boat ramp and parking lot so there was a lot of traffic. It’s next to the water but 3-4 feet above the water line and blocked by bushes and low hanging trees. There are a couple widow makers above so use caution during storms.

We moved to site 18 which was level with the water and pretty wide open. This area of the campground was much better. The only negative was the amount of ants, which we kept out of the camper with comet.

There was a 3 foot gator around most of the weekend. Some gar and blue cats to catch along with a lot of small crappie.

The facilities were clean. I think there was only one dumpster that is too far to walk with trash. Ice is for sale when social distancing rules go away.

    Prairie Creek Campground

    Mostly shaded sites

Prairie Creek Campground was mostly empty during our 1 night stopover. It is an attractive, wooded campground with mostly shaded sites. Sites along the lake tended to be closer together than I like, but with great views. Sites across the street tended to offer a little more space and, in some cases, more privacy. There were only two other occupied sites in our loop at the opposite end of our section. I had picked a secluded, wooded campsite away from the lake, but was able to move to a secluded, lakeside campsite which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable of our 6 week trip. The bathhouse was old, but clean. It was pleasant to walk the dog around the campground with the added benefit of also being able to walk through the old abandoned campground that was destroyed by a hurricane.

    Grew up here!

This is a large parcel of land owned and operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. Also known as Bob Woodruff Park, located right on the Alabama River, there's access to swimming, hiking, fishing and of course boating. However, you may want to visit one of the surrounding parks for well maintained and improved launching areas (Prairie Creek, Gunter Hill, etc.)

There isn't camping located in the immediate vicinity, however you can camp just down the road at either the Prairie Creek Park Campgrounds or back toward Montgomery a bit at Gunter Hill Park (also run my the Army Corps of Engineers).

If the fish aren't biting, you're close enough to the city of Montgomery to explore the area. Or head to Selma and learn about the Selma to Montgomery March!

    Great area!

My family and I visited Alabama a few years ago while on a family reunion. We decided to do some camping the last 2 nights we were visiting. We stayed here, and really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the tent area, and just set up 2 tents (there was 4 of us). The campsite fit both tents, had a table and fire ring. We spent the evening around the campsite roasting marshmallows. The place we stopped at ran out of chocolate and crackers, so we only had mallows. It was still super yummy. Bring your own so this doesn’t happen to you :). The campground was clean, although there was only 1 bathroom. It didn’t smell very good, so we were pleased that we weren’t close to the bathroom for that reason! Kinda felt bad for the people who had campsites near the bathrooms. Also, we really appreciated that there was a dumpster onsite as well. I think this helps with keeping the place clean. We found a hike to do in the morning and it was great. For my first visit to Alabama, I definitely enjoyed it and hopefully it won’t be my last!

    Prairie Creek Campground

    Beautiful Well Kept Campground

We stayed here for one night while traveling through Alabama. Looks like most of the sites are level with concrete parking pads. Many great waterfront sites with lots of big shade trees. No sewer sites, but the bathrooms are centrally located and an easy walk. This campground even has a laundry with pay washer and dryers.

Elm Bluff Campground — Alabama River Lakes

    March 2022

A somewhat hidden off the beaten path campground. Approximately 10 sites along the Alabama river. Good catfish fishing. Water hookups. Clean outhouses (in the off season at least). Large paved parking pads. Boat launch. I drove through Two miles of red mud to get to the paved access road

Guide to Camden

Camping options near Camden, Alabama offer a variety of water-based recreation opportunities along the Alabama River system. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F between June and September, with high humidity making proper site selection crucial for comfort.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Many campsites at Millers Ferry Campground include direct water access for anglers. "Great camground, with plenty of access to river. There is even a beach for swimming!" notes Jerry R.

Swimming areas: The dedicated swimming beach at Millers Ferry offers families a structured water recreation option during summer months. "Public lake for swimming, on site, with playground!" confirms L&A C., who stayed at Millers Ferry.

Nature observation: COE Alabama River Lakes Chilatchee Creek Campground provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities from waterfront sites. "A fun find! Large sites and a few with a private (in the off season) dock. Good bird watching, turtles and gators," reports Kelly E.

Hiking options: Several nature trails wind through the wooded areas surrounding campgrounds, offering opportunities to spot local wildlife. "Trails and nature for walking dogs. Nice playground," writes L&A C. about their experience at Chilatchee Creek.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers consistently mention the generous spacing between sites at Prairie Creek Campground, allowing for privacy even during busy periods. "Prairie Creek Campground was mostly empty during our 1 night stopover. It is an attractive, wooded campground with mostly shaded sites," notes Terry P.

Water views: Many sites feature direct waterfront access with views of the Alabama River system. "There are a couple widow makers above so use caution during storms. We moved to site 18 which was level with the water and pretty wide open," advises Nate S. about Prairie Creek.

Clean facilities: Despite the remote location, campground facilities receive regular maintenance. "The bathhouse was old, but clean. It was pleasant to walk the dog around the campground with the added benefit of also being able to walk through the old abandoned campground that was destroyed by a hurricane," mentions Terry P.

Quiet atmosphere: Isaac Creek offers a peaceful camping environment with minimal disruption. "Isaac Creek campground is very well laid out. All of the campground's staff are friendly, helpful, and just pleasant to work with," shares Staci R.

What you should know

Remote location: Camden area campgrounds require planning for supplies as the nearest stores are considerable distances away. "40m from nearest grocery store, so come prepared," advises Sadie R. about Isaac Creek.

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds and can be unreliable. "Cell service was spotty at best. 40m from nearest grocery store, so come prepared," notes Sadie R. from Isaac Creek.

Ant problems: Multiple campers report issues with ants at certain sites, particularly during warmer months. "Ants, Ants, Ants, Jim the gate guy told us to put comet around tires, didn't have any so trailer was invaded by a horde of little black ants. Got better prepared second night but still was fighting them for 2 days after," warns Steve V. about Prairie Creek.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Most campgrounds offer water and electric hookups but limited full-hookup options for longer stays. "Would get five stars but the ants really are bad. It's a southern campground thing apparently. Be prepared and you'll be fine," advises Jess S. about Prairie Creek.

Site leveling: Many Camden area campgrounds feature level paved or concrete pads suitable for larger RVs. "Level gavel site! Lots of trees So cool to see lighting bugs at night!" notes L&A C. about Chilatchee Creek.

Dump station access: Plan accordingly for campgrounds without sewer hookups at individual sites. "Talk about a nice campground! Secluded, quiet, right on the water. Only thing that would make it better is full hookup," suggests Joe O. about his experience at Millers Ferry.

Pet friendly camping near Camden, Alabama: For RVers traveling with pets, most Camden-area campgrounds accommodate pets with dedicated walking areas. "Level sites. Spacious. Quiet," states Randy M. about the pet-friendly environment at Sherling Lake Park and Campground.
