Bridger-Teton National Forest

Pacific Creek Campground is located next to the Teton Wilderness boundary at the north end of Pacific Creek Road, approximately 9.5 miles from the Moran entrance station. The campground is equipped with 7 standard campsites and 1 pull through site. There are corrals and hitching posts for horses, a stock tank, two double vault toilets, three game storage poles, and accessibility to bear boxes. Please be aware that there is no water provided, plan accordingly. Visitors can access the Pacific Creek Trailhead which is a popular route into Hawk’s Rest and the Thorofare.

Directions

Starting from Moran, Wyoming (located 27 miles south of Yellowstone National Park’s south entrance and 19 miles north of the Town of Moose, Wyoming), head west on United States Highway(US) 26/287 for approximately 0.2 miles. Turn right onto US 89/191/287 and continue on for approximately 1 mile. Make a right onto Pacific Creek Road/Wilderness Access Road/Forest Service (FS) Road 30090 following said road for 2.2 miles. Veer left to continue on FS 30090 for approximately 6 miles. The Pacific Creek Campground is located to the left. Approximate travel details from Moran: 10 miles, 17 minutes.

Quiet After Season stay

We were a caravan of 3 Rigs, ranging from 44’ 5th wheel to our 28’ TT. We were hoping to land a dispersed site, but those were taken. We continued on the the campground, but we were the only ones there!

Great campsite out of the park

We loved our two nights at Pacific Creek - hosts were super friendly (and flexible when we didn’t have cash the first night) and the accessibility to both Grand Tetons and Yellowstone was perfect. If you haven’t been able to snag a reservation in the park, this is an awesome alternative.

Good campground

Nice, quiet little campground right after the entrance to the national park. We originally planned for dispersed camping closer to the Tetons but when we couldn’t find anything a ranger told us about this site. There are a handful of dispersed sites on the way back, but the actually campground is at the end of a road. There are 8 sites in what looks like to be the whole campground, but we ran into the hosts as we drove in and they let us know about their 3 “new” spots off the overflow parking by the host site. We were lucky and only had people next to us for 1 night out of 4 so it felt like we were alone still. We came during a fire ban but since they had the established metal rings we were able to have fires, which was a game changer because of the mosquitos. After talking to some folks in Moose it sounds like mosquitos are terrible all around so it’s not specific to this campground. The camp hosts were also great and the woman (Marsha) gave us tons of suggestions on different things to do during the days. Overall, I’d say we’d be back if we came during a fire ban again or if we couldn’t find another dispersed spot, Not bad at all!

Hidden Gem

Stayed in mid-June when Yellowstone and Teton were brimming with tourists. We had booked a back-up RV spot near the south entrance to Teton, but after looking at it just filled our water there and left (it was basically an open field with 50 of your not best friends in RV's blasting music). Took a chance on Pacific Creek. All of the dispersed camping was taken, but the campground itself, which is at the end of the road, was about empty. For $10 we got a spacious site, table and fire ring. Water was available as were pit toilets. Looks like a great equestrian campground and we saw a few parties with horses. Make sure you make use of the bear boxes, as we saw plenty of bear prints and other sign within 200 yards of our site. Lovely trails leave right from here. The camp host is a Swiss ex-musician and all around nice guy.

Cheap but quality campground

this campground was relatively inexpensive ($10) compared to other campgrounds with plenty of availability. The views weren’t spectacular but the quality of the campground was totally worth it. The campsite contained a nice fire pit with benches made out of tree trunks. Fire wood was available for purchase ($6) in case you couldn’t find wood around the campsite, but we were able to scrounge to find plenty. The best part about the campground were the bathrooms. These were the cleanest, best smelling bathrooms- one even has some reading material. If you enjoy seeing horses as well, this is definitely your campground.

Great Little Campground

Stayed at Pacific Creek campground Aug 13-15. There are 8 dispersed campsites and 6 (I think) “official” sites. The cost was $10 per car.

We stayed in spot #4 of the official sites because there was a fire ban in place unless you stayed in a campsite with a metal fire ring.

It was a nice alternative to the larger campsites within Grand Teton Park. Because it was slightly out of the way it was much quieter and didn’t fill up as quickly.

Our site had a picnic table, metal fire ring, and bear box for storage. The site also had a communal bathroom. Nearby was a creek and a small trail. There also seemed to be a company doing trail rides not too far away.

Be Bear Aware

Pacific creek campground is at the end of a dirt road 1 mile past the entrance to Bridger Teton NP. We drove through but we’re not impressed so we opted for one of the 8 dispersed sites along Pacific Creek Rd. There are no services available whatsoever, however we found a beautiful place in dispersed #3, right by the creek and tucked back in the trees. we enjoyed the privacy, sunbathing nude on the gravel creek bank, and the beautiful surroundings until about 5:30 in the evening. We’d finished dinner and cleaned up and stowed our food and garbage and we we were sitting by the fire reading when a Black Bear came into camp. I looked up and it was about 15 feet away from me! I told it to go away and it eventually did but the threat of it coming back made us decide to bug out the next morning.

I want to give this site 5*, but the mosquitos were out of control

There are 8 free primitive sites, an Outfitter, and a Fee campsite with about 8 lots along a 9 mile dirt road. We stayed in site #4 of the free sites. So many wild flowers, the site was large, and so peaceful. There was a good deal of trucks up and down the road to the outfitter, but we weren’t bothered by it. We walked to along the road to the Outfitter, then to the river where the views were amazing. We tried to walk along the river back to our site and came across site #8, that I would definitely stay at had the road to it not been closed. We unfortunately had to rush back to our tent, skip our planned meal and hide out from the mosquitos. There are no toilets, picnic tables or water at the free sites. The pay sites at the end of the road do have picnic tables, firepits, and a toilet.
