Beautiful but not what we were expecting

This campground is very beautiful but it was not was the reviews said. The BLM campground is actually opposite of the park and you DO NOT need to drive over the very scary bridge to sheep bridge park. I do not recommend driving over that bridge unless you have tough tires and are an expert driver.

The campsite does not have bathrooms, only some have firepits (we made ours out of rocks), trash cans, and there are no picnic tables.

Even though there's no amenities this campsite is GORGEOUS. I'm talking 10 minutes from Zion, snow capped mountains on the left of you, red plateaus on the right. There's even a small waterfall we took our dinner to and sat by.

You may have to rough it, but this was the most beautiful campsite we've ever stayed at.

Close to Zion NP, beautiful surroundings, isolated and quiet

Stayed in Site 47 for four nights.  Yes, Sheep Bridge road is washboard bumpy.  Yes, spur roads off of Sheep Bridge Rd can be challenging but we managed quite easily with a Ford F250 towing a 27' travel trailer.  For #47 and #48 you have to cross a pretty nasty wash. Highly recommend the BLM map for this area which accurately shows places you are allowed to stay.  Lots of signs showing "camping in designated sites only" but didn't see anyone enforcing it.  Many campers disregarded rule.  Site 47 was big enough for at least 3 large rigs.  Others around it were quite small.  1-2 bars with Verizon.

Bumpy getting in but great space.

We drove our skoolie in and found a place to park… but bumpy in, but worth it. They have some designated areas with fire rings to park. There were others around although you still felt spread out. A large grocery and fuel is about fifteen minutes away in Hurricane too. Make sure you drive past the day use area to the BLM map.

Decent Area, Wrong Name

The area is incorrectly named as others have stated. Aside from that there are several nice sites to choose from, though few are available to those without high clearance. We managed to grab site 39 which did not require high clearance at the time of our stay. The night sky was incredible! There is a vault toilet at one of the nearby bike trailheads. 25 minutes to Zion NP entry. Would stay again!

Pin in wrong place

This BLM dispersed camping area is officially the Hurricane Cliffs Camping area...the County Sheep Bridge Road bisects the area and is used to refer to the larger BLM area...however the dispersed camping is only at designated sites noted at other pins on the app map. There are about 50+ designated campsites along four dirt Spurs off the Sheep Bridge County Rd.

Wonderful for small cars

This place blew us away. Normally dispersed camping is hectic unkept and difficult to get to unless you have a four wheel drive. This place is so well maintained with designated sites as well as plenty of open space. We had a great stay away from the road highly recommend.

Amazing views!

May need a high clearance vehicle to go down some of the roads but we made it in our Chevy Trax. We were very secluded and could not see any other campers from our campsite. The ground is hard so tent camping is a little bit of a struggle but we just used rocks to hold it down. Only 20-30 min from Zion. The views are something you will never see at a regular campground!

Freedom near Zion

Great dispersed camping near Zion. Drove out in loaded down minivan with not a lot of clearance. Any car could make it down main road and find campsite. Some side roads you would need higher clearance vehicles but did not go down those roads. Sites are marked and most have a fire ring. Fist place we stopped had 5 any hills and broken glass. Next place only had 1 ant hill and it as clean. We set up camp opposite side of ant hill and plenty of room so not an issue. 30 minutes to Zion entrance. We were able to get dinner at restaurant in Virgin right where dirt road starts one night when too tired to cook. Could hear some RV generators but campsites are very spread out so plenty of privacy.

If you have pets come here

This place outdid itself when I came here. I didn't have any expectations but knew that dispersed camping meant I could let my dog wander. All the designated areas are spread enough apart you will never hear another site. The views are spectacular and it's just a short drive outside of Zion. It obviously lacks amenities (dispersed camping) but had fire pits for fires (couldn't have a fire this time). Go here if you'd like peace and quiet and to be near all the national parks.

felt a little freaked out on the bumpy dirt side roads in my CRV so didn't venture that far in. was a little confused about where camping spots even were, but did find a quiet place closeish to the road to set up for the night. Worked out very well as a stopover. Gorgeous scenery. Patchy Verizon service.

Great location for free camping

This road is a very short drive from Zion, and located perfectly in the middle of a lot of great stops. Just a dirt road with other roads you can pull off on to find spots. If you keep going down the road you’ll eventually reach a gated off area, I camped in the spot directly to the right of that. This was a little bit of a mistake because my camp area was what everyone used to do a three point turn away from the gated road. But that was more entertaining to watch than bad. Even as far as I was in it didn’t take long to get back to the highway. Fire ring and lovely views. People were close enough that I could occasionally hear them but not really see them. Would stay again!

Good spot

Close to the road but not too bad. A few open areas for RVs and more pulloffs on the side which according to the sign are off limits but there were plenty of people around breaking that rule so probably not a big deal.

Great pit stop

It was getting late in the day so my husband and I were looking for a spot to stay for the night and found this. We got here at 5:30 on a Friday night (10/16/20) and I think maybe got one of the last spots but it was so easy to get to. It’s right off the highway so there was some noise from that but it was pretty quiet at night. The views there are also incredible. We stopped here again on our way back on a Sunday and got a spot further back from the highway and it was beautiful and even quieter. Definitely recommend, very close to Zion.

We camped here in October during visit to Zion. Some areas marked no camping, but we explored the dirt/rocky roads until we found a good empty spot. Got in around 9PM and still were able to find one. Convenient and private. No shade, so might be hot in other months.

Remote but accessible primitive camping

Tldr: A 4wd dirt road out to the canyon with primitive (open dirt) campsites and a few fire rings.

The sheeps bridge road that gets out through the campsites has camping options from right off the highways to deep into the fields by the virgin river canyon. All are primitive, and many have fire rings. I did see some RVs near the highway, but no hookups or dump sites. A number of hiking and off roading shortcuts can get you in and around the area. While there are no large rocks to worry about, after the first couple miles its best to have a four wheel drive high clearance vehicle, as the roads get rutted and in rain very muddy. I made it around easily in a Mitsubishi outlander sport with 4wd. Many campsites are clearly visible by the signage as well as visible fire rings. The fire rings have spikes and mounts for convenience. Due to the elevation and canyon, this area is slightly warmer in the winter, and was not snowed over when the rest of zion was, so it made for good camping (the ground was still frozen). My friend and I had no trouble staking down, and the local gas stations (less than 30 min drive in any direction) all had firewood in the winter. We drove and hiked into the canyon easily from the campsite. Overall a fantastic primitive campsite for good canyon access, nearby hikes, and a few non sandstone climbs/boulders during rainy seasons.

Convenient to Zion

This is BLM land, which is free to camp on. Pretty easy to find. Right off the Highway 9, near Hurricane Utah. Get your supplies before you go from town. Conveniently located, just west, to Zion park. Being close to Zion the views of the mountains from this land were spectatuclar. The place is also close to Maverick gas station that offers free dump stations. The road to the camp area is gravel and a bit rutted. Would recommend you drive the road slowly and you'll be fine. There were some class A RVs that made it down the road just fine. Once you get to the area, there's plenty of obvious places to pull over and camp. The place had quite a few campers and tenters, probably due to proximity to Zion. But everyone was a respectable distance away. There was enough space for all and enough to feel you had some privacy. There was a lot of trash around. Not sure why folks didn't pack it out. There are no amenities here including trash cans. It all has to be packed in and packed out. No toilets either.

Free camping that's close to Zion but is hot!

Another campground that provides quick, free access to Zion National Park and a large part of the St. George area. There is camping all along Sheep Bridge road but be aware it gets very buy in the summer despite the soaring temperatures. Show up early before 3 and you should be able to get a spot any day besides the weekend. An even closer portion of Zion to the campground is accessed through Kolob Terrace Rd. just to the east. It passes in and out of the park before ending at Kolob Reservoir. The campgrounds are primitive and most contain fire rings.
