Amazing experience great foliage change

Stayed here at the end of October and saw amazing foliage change. Beautiful colors hard to see elsewhere. The trails were great and clearly well maintained. Mike and Pam were fantastic helping us get settled. Likely will go back to catch some snow.

Family friendly

Everything a small family with very young kids could need. We tent camped for two nights on the lower back end of the campsite, then rounded out our stay with one night in the cabin. The owners were extremely accommodating, since technically the cabin required multiple night's stay.

Great off the beaten path park!

The site was beautiful, lots of space between campers. Bathhouse clean and functional. Unfortunately rained the whole time we were there, ended up leaving a day early. Mike was welcoming and accommodating!

New Years camping

This place is absolutely beautiful. Totally worth driving up the small country mountain road. After you make it up. The office is on the right. Very friendly staff and super helpful. He walked us to our site and helped us make sure we could pull into our site. We set up on site C-4 close to the tree line so we had so much privacy. It was close enough to the bathhouse but far enough for us to feel secluded. They have a fishing pond, long hiking trails and only about 15 minutes from downtown.

Neat spot!

This is a really chill spot near Boone. We stayed in one of the tipis, and it was an awesome glamping experience

The bathrooms were clean.

Everyone staying here was really nice and chill. It feels a little hippie which is neat.

If you’re pulling a camper, the road would be a little rough, but I look forward to bringing our camper here sometime.

Incredible Scenic destination!

We camped here while learning g to roast coffee and it was incredible. It was early November and the colors were incredible. I think we missed peak colors by a week or so. The next week it dumped snow. I hate we missed that!

Secluded mountain camp

The host at the campground was welcoming and informative! I sadly do not remember his name, but he made sure I had all the information about the mountain camp land & trails and was incredibly hospitable. I wish I had time to spend more than one night so I could have explored the grounds! The night sky was incredible with little to no light pollution, it was breathtaking to see so many stars in the night sky. When they say that 4wd is recommended, they aren't joking. The road back into the camp is long and VERY rough. I was in a ford transit campervan and managed to get up to the camp, but barely 😂 If I was in a sedan, even AWD, I might have struggled in some spots. I also wasn't entirely sure I wasn't going down someone's long driveway or something, some signs wouldn't hurt. I'm thankful google maps got me to the correct location! The campsite, C4 was a treat! It had two fire rings, and a lower spot to set up a tent if I had wanted to. The bathroom/shower was really nice, one of the nicest I've seen in a Campground! Will definitely visit again if I'm in the area with more time to spend.

Secluded spot with super hosts

There isn’t much to look at once you get up there, but it’s still pretty. We had a neighbor nice enough to give us his site because he was leaving early and I would have stayed another night there. It was C3 backed into the woods on level ground. It made for a cozy morning.

Camping in the mountains

Lovely woody and grassy field campground with only electric at our site. The sunrise is beautiful on the big field. The sites are well spaced and fairly level. The bath house had clean and private bathing rooms with great hot water and pressure. There is a place to wash dishes outside as well. Fantastic walking trails - some parts quite steep but we got a good workout through the woods on the property. You fill up your fresh water tank on arrival and can use the dump station on the way out. The only reason for the 4/5 stars is that the road leading up to the campsite is very rough - it felt very "off road" for my first time driving the 27' motorhome! But we made it and just had to take it super slow. Lovely camp ground owners. The whole experience had a very low-key, relaxed vibe.

Honeymoon Teepee

A great and friendly campground. Staff is constantly going out of their way to ensure your comfort. Sites are spacious and the view is breathtaking. The morning sun lights up the meadow which is the campground centerpiece. A small outdoor arena for music events is off to one side. A teepee is the center attraction. My wife and I stayed there for our honeymoon. Memories for a lifetime; literally as she passed shortly thereafter. A great campground, great staff, and a short drive to if needed. I’m looking forward to my next visit! Hope to see you there.

A magical gem of a campground!

This campground is magical. We were lucky enough to find it and stay here in June, 2019.

The tent site that we stayed in was really beautiful and had an amazing view of the mountains. The field that was in front of our site had beautiful wild flowers. We made lovely bouquets and even wore flowers in our hair! My favorite time of day here was evening when the sun was setting. We saw lots of bats and birds! The bathrooms were so very clean as well.  The gentleman that ran the campground were very kind and lovely and recommended a fun day on the river in Todd.  I’d like to go back in the future and stay in the teepee’s that they had. They looked really cool. They also had beautiful tree houses that I’d love to stay in one day!

The Best

I’ve stayed at Blue Bear twice and booked my third stay as I was leaving. Wonderful campground - you can’t beat any aspect of it.

The sites are well spaced so you don’t feel on top of other campers. Remote sites provide that extra sense of privacy.

The owners are so helpful and friendly. Providing wood and also have devices to haul your gear to certain remote sites.

Location is a great jumping point for tons of hiking and other activities. We went to Ashe County Park to play disc golf, and into Boone to walk around and look at shops.

Bathhouse is very clean and well kept. There is nothing negative to say about Blue Bear. It is our favorite site by far, and keeps us coming back.

Unique

Spacious campsites and a lot of different kinds to choose from! Field sites, wooded sites, large, small AND hike in remote sites! Clean, updated bathrooms. They deliver your firewood although I didn’t have to buy any because the previous campers left plenty!

Dog friendly with no mention of breed restrictions. I definitely will go again! All around professionally managed and friendly staff too!

Large campsites on a mountaintop

The people who own it are super friendly. The campsites are very spaced out. The elevation is high so weather is nice for those trying to escape the summer heat. Bathhouse was nice and clean. The hike to the pond was a little more strenuous than we anticipated but once you get there, there is a nice creek and we caught a trout in the pond right away. I wish there was a playground for the kids but overall it was very nice. Close to Boone. The state maintained gravel road used to access campground was narrow and would be difficult to get a large camper up there, although there were lots of large ones there. We would go back.

Clean & Quiet

The bath house at this campground is very nice and clean. They even have an outdoor sink on one side where you can clean your dishes. Our campsite was one of the furthest from the entrance though so it was a bit of a hike to the bath house. This campground is very quiet and only 15 minutes away from Boone, NC. There are lots of hiking trails to explore and they also have a campground store that sells firewood and charcoal. They do not allow bringing firewood into the campground, you must purchase it at the store.

Amazing, private, secluded

This camp ground was a very private spot. On top of a hill over looking a lake, this sport made us feel very one with nature. Everything was pack in-pack out and about 1.5 miles in. The forest around us was quite dense allowing for us to feel like the only ones out there. Firewood was delivered for us.

Enjoyed our stay immensely

We stayed at Blue Bear Family Campground on Thanksgiving evening and the following weekend last year. The staff were extremely helpful, arranging items so we could come in Thanksgiving evening without disturbing their family time, at my request. It was me, my 2 dogs, 2 cousins, and my nephew. Our campsite didn't have any direct neighbors until Friday evening, and even then, they were not close enough to disturb us. The campsites are spread out well, and the owner showed me a few places they plan to expand, also explaining that they want to keep everything spread out to avoid the cramped camping feeling. The property itself has miles of trails available, although we didn't get a chance to test them out ourselves this trip. In addition to tent sites, Blue Bear offers RV sites, cabins, and teepee rentals as well. Blue Bear is a hidden gem that I cannot wait to visit in the near future for further exploration.

Mountain Meadow

This campground is 10 to 15 minutes north of Boone, NC in a small town called Todd. It offers RV, drive in and hike in tent sites and also teepee camping. My trip was from a few years ago and after checking the website and looking around it looks like a few things have been added but here's my review from 2014. You first pull into a big meadow surrounded by forest where most of the campsites are. There's a loop with a bathhouse in the middle and all of the rv sites along the edge, the drive in tent sites are also visible from here. Just outside of the loop is a small cabin that is the check-in station with a small storage shed next to it. The wooden "board and batten" siding on the cabin give the whole place a cool old timey feel. They also have a pinzgauer "cool military truck" parked outside to help deliver gear to some of the remote hike in sites if you need it. All in all, this place was awesome and I would love to go back.
