Rim Lake - DAY USE ONLY

ORV enthusiasts and anglers will find multiple access points at this Bureau of Land Management day-use area, though overnight camping occurs despite the official designation. The site sits alongside a lake that fluctuates dramatically with seasonal conditions, creating varying experiences throughout the year.

Water levels determine much of the campground's character. Brian W. found "the lake is pretty high and there are a couple of picnic tables almost in the water" during his April visit, while others report the lake completely dried up during certain periods. When water levels are high, the road around the lake sits just inches above the waterline. A boat launch provides access for those bringing watercraft.

The area features established fire pits and basic toilet facilities, with AT&T cell coverage available. Wildlife sightings include antelope, deer, coyotes, and various bird species. Mountain trails accommodate off-road vehicles, extending recreation opportunities beyond the immediate lakeside area. Most visitors report having the space largely to themselves, contributing to the secluded atmosphere.

Navigation requires attention since some mapping services provide incorrect coordinates. For those exploring the broader region, Red Desert Rose Campground offers additional overnight options just north of the area. The site works well as an overnight stop for travelers seeking basic amenities and lake access when conditions allow.

Numerous guests pointed out this secluded spot as quiet and private, perfect for basic overnight camping. Several reviews noted the lake is often dry and facilities are minimal. Common feedback included good wildlife viewing opportunities.

Good overnight stop

No problem with Google maps to find it. The lake is pretty high and there are a couple of picnic tables almost in the water. With the water this high the road around the lake is maybe 12” above the water. I stayed near the boat launch. No one else was there.

Great view

The campsite was easy to find, there were 3 people there but the parking was good enough I never interacted. Gorgeous views for a quick overnight spot.

GPS COORDINATES INCORRECT

Went to go’s coordinates given and they are incorrect. Google rim lake recreation site and you will get better directions. Lake is pretty dry but it is nice and secluded. Have the space to myself.

Simple, Basic, Free!

I camped right by, what used to be, Rim Lake. Its all dried up now. The area was very quiet, I was the only one camping there. There were fire pits set up to cook on. There was a good amount of wildlife, birds, coyotes, deer. Its nothing special but a perfect place to post up for the night! I'd stop here again.

Basic, clean

This is a good place for using an ORV because there are trails up the mountain for them. It's a good place to fish, camp, and hang out. It's bars minimum out here. Nothing special.
