This BLM campground sits directly on the Encampment River with eight first-come, first-serve sites priced at $10 per night ($5 with senior pass). The access road includes steep sections and curves that require careful navigation, though campers report successfully bringing RVs up to 25 feet and Class C motorhomes without major difficulty.
Most sites face the river and include picnic tables with grilling platforms and fire rings. Trees provide natural shade and hammock-hanging opportunities between many sites. The campground features vault toilets and trash service, though no drinking water is available on-site. Annie C. notes "there is a nice trail along the river that obviously was made by anglers." A boat ramp adjacent to the campground provides river access for fishing and floating.
Cell service runs weak for major carriers. Campers must bring all water needed for their stay, though the gas station in town offers free water fills. The Encampment River runs cold and fast, making wading challenging in deeper sections. Wildlife in the area includes bears, mountain lions, and moose. For additional camping options, visitors can explore places to camp around Encampment or check nearby Lazy Acres Campground and Motel for full hookups.
