Best Dog-Friendly Camping near La Porte, TX

Galveston Bay RV Resort welcomes campers with pets across its well-maintained grounds. The park features cement pads throughout with various accommodation options including tent sites, RV spots with full hookups, and pet-friendly cabins. Most campgrounds in the area enforce leash requirements for dogs while outside accommodation units. Eagles Point RV and Camping provides a more secluded setting for pet owners seeking quieter surroundings, with fishing opportunities and hiking trails where dogs can join their owners. Jackie's Place RV Resort offers a fenced dog park specifically designed for pets to exercise off-leash within the property boundaries. Clean bathroom facilities remain accessible to campers with pets at most locations.

Camping with dogs near La Porte requires planning for the Gulf Coast heat, especially during summer months when temperatures can soar. Bay RV Park sits just two blocks from Galveston Bay, providing convenient water access for dogs who enjoy swimming. USA RV Resorts Marina Bay lacks a fenced dog area but compensates with its location near water access points and walkable paths. Several properties enforce quiet hours to prevent excessive barking, particularly in more densely populated parks where RVs are placed closer together. The region's wildlife considerations include alligator warnings at some waterfront properties where pets should remain closely supervised. Most campgrounds require proof of current vaccinations at check-in, and the nearby Kemah area offers veterinary services within driving distance for emergency situations.

Great rv campground close to airport

Great campground with wonderful staff who are very friendly. Full hookup, paved sites with heated saltwater pool and hot tub, workout facilities, clubhouse with games and puzzles, laundry facilities, a small camp store, and pet friendly with two small dog parks. The best thing about the location is that it backs up to Tom Bass park that has wonderful dog parks along with playgrounds and frisbee golf. Would definitely be staying here again!

    Traders Village RV Park

Houston, Tx…..Nothing to get excited about

It’s a large campground and spaces are very small. There’s a grass strip between camp sites. No picnic tables or grills. The office gave us a map and showed us how to get to our site but virtually impossible to understand. A very nice gentleman that stayed here took us to our site. He said they have no idea how to do directions and a buddy of his really messed up his camper by trolling around looking for their site. It’s very crowded and no room for awnings or for both campers side by side to put out awnings. There is a pool but it doesn’t look well maintained and there’s absolutely no chairs. Just the pool and it’s small. Laundry room is large. There’s no dog park or anywhere to walk your dog. Signs everywhere that say no pets, yet they are allowed. The flea market is only on the wknd. It’s close to a lot of restaurants and in a nice area.

    Beachside RV Park

    Best place in Bolivar Peninsula

This was such a blissful place to start my Texas snowbird trip. As a solo female traveler in a campervan I felt so incredibly safe and welcomed to this campground. Nancy and Butch are the kindest campground hosts I've ever encountered. They ensured to check in with me regularly during my two week stay, the bathroom, shower and laundry facilities were maintained consistently, and the dog park and closeness to the beach was perfect for my dog's daily exercise. For the reasonable price, I felt this campground delivered above and beyond. If I hadn't scheduled another campground, I would have stayed longer. Thank you to all at Beachside RV. You made my stay memorable.

    Bolivar Peninsula RV Park

    Still needs work

Pros: office lady very nice, site 1 has 1 tree for shade, ferry w/ our travel trailer from Galveston Island was easier than expected, large dog park, close to Camp Margaritaville.

Cons: gravel sites, bathroom super gross with no TP, dirt rv road kicks up lots of dust, right on noisy highway.

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

    A lot of Amenities

The park is clean, but the sites are tight. The further you get to the front the louder the traffic noise is, but the sites are larger and spaced out more. It is a five and take. It has three locations with washer and dryers, two dog parks, a recreation room and easy access to Tom Bass park.

    Beachside RV Park

    Affordable, Convenient, Amenity Rich

This is the nicest RV Park on the Bolivar Peninsula / Crystal Beach area. Truly. So well maintained, and quiet peaceful setting.

We were surprised that it had a nice dog park, indoor laundry, shower, wifi, gazebo for hanging out in and more, all included in the rate!

    Close to the beach.

Walk to the gas station and restaurants.

They are running a winter special.

Guide to La Porte

Near La Porte, Texas, campers find diverse options along Galveston Bay where elevations rarely exceed 30 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures typically reach 90°F with high humidity, making water access especially valuable. Winter camping offers milder conditions with temperatures averaging 50-65°F during the day.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Eagles Point RV and Camping provides waterfront access where campers can fish directly from the property. As one visitor noted, "This campground is so quiet. It is pretty close to town but once you get here you'll be blown away by how it feels like it's super far from anything else." The lake offers freshwater fishing without requiring a boat.

Beach activities: Galveston Island State Park Campground offers direct beach access just a 45-minute drive from La Porte. A camper shared, "The beach itself is clean/not littered and is perfect for skim boarding!" Most sites are within a 5-minute walk to the shoreline.

Kayaking and canoeing: Brickhouse RV Resort provides kayaking opportunities along Jarbo Bayou. A visitor mentioned, "Pool is located next to Jarbo Bayou for birdwatching, kayaking and fishing." Rentals aren't available on-site, so bring your own equipment.

What campers like

Proximity to water: Many pet friendly camping options near La Porte offer water access. Bay RV Park sits just two blocks from Galveston Bay. According to one review, "Bay RV Park is just two blocks away from Galveston Bay. We have huge, Texas-size sites with full hook-ups (20, 30 and 50 amp)."

Clean facilities: Campgrounds in the area maintain well-kept bathhouses. One camper at USA RV Resorts Marina Bay noted, "We arrived here and this place is very neatly kept and very clean. Cement pads throughout. Cabins available as well." Many campgrounds offer private shower rooms rather than communal facilities.

Accessibility to attractions: Camping near La Porte provides easy access to regional attractions. A visitor at USA RV Resorts Marina Bay explained, "The location in Kemah is walking distance to several good restaurants and musical entertainment. Across the street is Clear Lake Shores. A bayside community with boats." Most campers report needing less than 15 minutes to reach restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues.

What you should know

Mosquito preparation: Gulf Coast insects can be intense, especially at dusk. Bring strong repellent and consider camping during winter months when mosquito populations decrease. A Galveston Island camper warned, "The only downside? The mosquitoes!! Right at dusk they attacked with a vengeance. Be prepared for that!"

Site spacing: RV parks in this region often place sites close together. At Brickhouse RV Resort, a camper observed, "Very tightly packed together. Had a pool and clubhouse. Very nice clean bath/shower rooms and laundry facilities. Only real problem was the people park on the main thruway making getting in and out with the trailer difficult."

Age restrictions: Some campgrounds limit who can stay. Houston East RV Resort has specific policies about children. One reviewer noted, "This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard from an RV park…no school-age children allowed on the property!" Always check pet and age policies before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated swimming areas: When camping with pets and children near La Porte, prioritize campgrounds with swimming options. Jackie's Place RV Resort features amenities suitable for families. A reviewer mentioned, "Fenced Dog Park and Pool a must for Gulf Coast Heat…. Lots of places to eat and/or hang out."

Consider off-season visits: Spring and fall provide more comfortable temperatures for family camping with pets. Winter months (November-February) offer daytime temperatures around 60-70°F, ideal for outdoor activities without summer's extreme heat.

Bring shade structures: Many campsites lack natural shade. A camper at USA RV Resorts Marina Bay noted, "There isn't any shade so it makes it hot during the summer with all of the concrete etc reflecting the sunlight back on you camper." Pop-up canopies or awnings provide necessary relief from direct sun for both humans and pets.

Tips from RVers

Reserve covered sites when available: Some campgrounds offer premium covered parking. A visitor at Houston East RV Resort explained, "Oh they also have covered RV sites should you want to beat some of that sunshine off your rig in summer heat. There is a small pool that is nice, and a lake behind campground so one row of sites has lake views."

Check site access before arrival: Many parks have tight turns or limited maneuvering space. Request a site map or specific directions for larger rigs. At Brickhouse RV Resort, a camper mentioned having to "wake a guy up to move his truck to get into our spot and he was cranky about it."

Plan for weather fluctuations: The Gulf Coast experiences rapid weather changes. Pack for both hot days and cool evenings, particularly during transition seasons. Waterproof storage for pet supplies helps during frequent coastal rain showers that typically last 1-2 hours.
