Terrain variations: McKinney Falls State Park features unique geography. "There's an extinct volcano nearby called Pilot Knob. That accounts for the flat rock near the main falls. They are working on restoring the visitor center from after the floods," explains Emily M.

Educational opportunities: Oak Forest RV Park provides access to both nature and cultural sites. "Great location. Has Tiny houses mixed in with RVs. Lots of trees and shade. Great people. We really enjoyed this park," writes Shelly P.
Kid-friendly facilities: Several parks offer specific amenities for children. "They have a children's playground and a nice swimming pool. The trees here are being replanted and restored," notes a Bastrop State Park visitor.

Proximity to urban amenities: Pecan Grove RV Park offers unusual city access. "This location absolutely can't be beat if you want to check out downtown Austin. We went on bike rides and runs right from the site and we could easily hop on a scooter and check out so many popular Austin spots," reports Bounding Around.
Site selection: Choose carefully based on shade needs during hot months. "We spent a couple of nights at this park. We loved the water falls and the sites are far apart with trees and shrubs surrounding them," notes a McKinney Falls visitor.
Weather considerations: The Austin area experiences extreme summer heat. "Camped here two nights. The facilities are amazing. Visited during the middle of summer, so it was very hot, sunny, and dry. Bring sun screen and plenty of water!" advises Danielle R.
