This free lakefront campground sits directly on Lake Granbury, with sites arranged parallel to the water for easy access. Campers park along the shoreline road, creating a first-come, first-served setup that fills quickly during weekends. The flat terrain offers minimal shade from sparse trees, but the immediate water access compensates for the open exposure.

Basic amenities include restrooms with toilets, picnic tables, and grills at each site. Rachel S. found it an "overall good free spot right on the water" despite some leveling challenges on the road surface. The restroom facilities vary in condition, with some campers noting cleanliness issues while others report well-maintained facilities stocked with supplies.

A fishing pier extends into the lake and sees regular use by both campers and local residents. Geese frequent the area and can be aggressive when seeking food, particularly during cooking times. The 10-day stay limit is actively monitored, and overnight visitors report generally quiet conditions despite the occasional presence of transient individuals. Cell service remains available throughout the park, making it workable for those needing connectivity while camping beside the lake.

Campers regularly cited the beautiful free lakefront sites and quiet atmosphere as major draws. Restroom conditions received mixed feedback, and visitors should be prepared for potentially aggressive geese around the park.

Not private but free

This was a great spot for me to park with my camper on the way through. There are some homeless here. The spot it's right on the lake and campers parallel park. Table and grill provided, and bathrooms are available. I felt safe and it was quiet at night. There is a fishing pier that seems well used by the community.

I had a great time here

Hunter Park in Texas is truly a great destination for those who love camping. I had the opportunity to experience and feel the fresh air and peace here. Although the terrain is relatively flat and the trees are sparse, the closeness to nature made me feel relaxed. The weather can change quite dramatically, so I recommend being well prepared. A big plus is its proximity to Dinosaur Valley State Park and Lake Granbury, where you can enjoy activities like hiking and boating. Hunter Park is truly the perfect place for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life!

Peaceful

It’s a pretty awesome place to camp and it’s really quiet. There are restrooms but no water or electricity but they are really good at maintaining the restrooms (stocked with toilet paper and keeping it clean) they are particular about you only staying 10 days so just be mindful of that.

Ok for a night

Really pretty free sites right on the water. Sign said you can stay up to 10 days. Bathrooms only with toilets and no running water. They are not the cleanest. Only thing I wasn’t prepared for was all of the geese around the park. They are very loud and will annoy for food. One almost attacked me as my boyfriend and I were cooking dinner. Overall it was alright for a free nights stay.

Free parking on a lake with bathroom and tables

Overall good free spot right on the water. We weren’t quite level on the road but nice to have bathrooms with running water and picnic tables right outside. Sign said you can stay for multiple nights.

Right in the lake

I was able to park right on the lake. I stayed one night on a trip. It was just before the heat hit. Lovely night in my van.
