Barefoot Fishing Camp & RV Park

Accessible by reservation at $40 per night, Barefoot Fishing Camp & RV Park provides both RV sites with electric and water hookups and primitive tent camping along the Colorado River. The campground sits on a bend of the river west of town, though campers should expect rough road conditions when accessing the property.

The facility features full amenities including showers, restrooms, and a dump station for RVs. Tent campers often prefer the primitive sites for their closer integration with the surrounding woods. Karrah C. notes "awesome showers and bathrooms, lots of birding and wildlife viewing opportunities" during her five-day stay. Wildlife sightings include tarantulas and painted buntings among the trees that provide natural screening between sites.

River access remains straightforward from most camping areas, supporting swimming, fishing, and floating activities. A general store operates adjacent to the campground, offering supplies and prepared food along with local character—including a potbelly pig that visitors can feed. The store provides a convenient option when campers prefer not to drive back toward camping near Bend for meals or forgotten items.

The combination of river frontage and wooded setting works well for campers who don't mind basic road conditions in exchange for direct water access and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Campers regularly cited the well-maintained sites and friendly staff as highlights. Recent reviews praised bathroom facilities, though some noted past issues with cleanliness and electrical service.

Hidden Gem

Camped here in a tent for 5 days last spring with my best friend. Very friendly staff, awesome showers and bathrooms, lots of birding and wildlife viewing opportunities. Saw my first tarantula and painting buntings here. Overall cozy vibe, Would 100% camp here again if I was back in Texas. Nestled in the woods beyond Lampasas, it’s not a bad drive back into town if you’re wanting to treat yourself to a meal out. Has an awesome General Store right outside the campgrounds, where you can purchase forgotten items and grab a bite to eat at their little restaurant. Everyone in the area is super friendly and helpful. The General Store people had a potbelly pig they let us feed snacks to when we were there.

Quiet country campground

It's a nice property to explore. There's a lot of camp sites here, both for RV and primative tent camping. In fact we liked the primative sites better just for the inclusive nature surroundings. The campground is right on a bend of the colorado river and it's good for swimming, fishing, floating, etc. The bathrooms aren't the cleanest and the electric service would flicker at times. We did have a nice time. I wish the RV area had more trees.
