Riverside hiking trails: At Scenic Park Campground, you'll find trails along the Missouri River. "The trails I loved were along the river. The only con was that There was a major highway on the other side of the river and ambulances would pass by with sirens going," notes Shannon G.
Water activities: Browns Lake Bigelow Park provides swimming and fishing opportunities within 10 miles of Sioux City. "CG has horse shoe pits, Basketball, volleyball courts, playground for the kids and a swimming beach. Newly constructed Handicapped ramp to fishing jetty and nice big fishing/boat dock that is at the rear of the CG," reports Jay M.
Wildlife watching: Danish Alps State Recreation Area offers bird watching opportunities and nature viewing. "The lake in the area is beautiful and there's quite a large space to the park with lots of trails and open field areas," writes Tiffany Yenter H.

River views: Many campers appreciate Cottonwood Cove Park Campground for its waterfront locations. "Cottonwood Cove Park was the fifth campsite we rolled into in this tri-state area looking for a spot that we actually liked, and boy did we score! This is a little municipal park with only 12 sites, water/electric/cable TV for $22/night," shares Marc G.
Site spacing: Stone State Park Campground offers more secluded options. "Such a great place to camp! Normally some grounds seem over crowded in the summer, but not here! Lots of trails, a little man made lake and a playground in the park for the kids," according to Ronee P.
Clean facilities: Campers regularly mention the cleanliness at campgrounds in the area. "Restrooms/showers were newer, modern and spotless and also served as a tornado safe shelter. 4 individual shower rooms+ 4 individual/private toilet, sink, shower rooms handicapped accessible," notes Jay M. about Browns Lake Bigelow Park.
What you should know
Reservation requirements: Some campgrounds like Scenic Park require advance bookings while others operate first-come, first-served. "All sites are 1st come 1st serve. Water at each site. We came in mid Friday and there were several sites available with one site still available lake side which we took," explains Jay M. about Browns Lake.
Seasonal availability: Most campgrounds operate from May through October. "We stayed with our class A RV on our way to and from a further destination in early July," shares Chris S. about their stay at Scenic Park.
Cell service: Ponca State Park and other area campgrounds have variable cell reception. "Cell service on Verizon is an impressive 4 bars, 42ms ping/65.6 Mbps down/24.8 Mbps up/3ms jitter," reports Marc G. about Cottonwood Cove Park.
