Osceola National Forest Hog Pen Landing Campground

With ten to twelve sites scattered along Ocean Pond's western shore, this US Forest Service campground charges $10 per night and operates year-round. A well-maintained dirt road leads from the highway to the lakefront sites, though signage can be sparse upon entering the national forest property.

Half the sites face the water directly and receive sun during the day, while the remaining spots sit back in the shade among cypress and pine trees. Most sites include picnic tables, and bear-proof trash containers are distributed throughout the area. The campground features vault toilets that receive regular maintenance, with one reviewer noting they were checked twice daily by the host. A boat ramp provides lake access for fishing and paddling, bringing moderate daytime traffic that quiets down after sunset.

Cell service reaches the campground reliably, and Lake City sits 25 minutes away for supplies and services. The nearby Ocean Pond Campground offers hookups and shower facilities for campers wanting more amenities. Abby M. found the host "SO KIND and gave me so much advice on where to shower and get free water!"

Weekend visits tend to fill up faster than weekdays, and the surrounding forest provides hiking opportunities for both campers and their dogs.

Visitors often highlighted the beautiful lakefront sites, clean facilities, and peaceful atmosphere at this $10/night campground. Several guests observed excellent value for a remote location with boat access, though muddy conditions during rain periods were occasionally noted.

It's ok

It's $10 a night during hunting season there is no limit on stay. After it's 14 days. Hog pen is nice when it's empty but fills up fast on the weekends. Ocean pond is near by they have hook ups and range from $12 to $30 a night depending on how you camp. They also have free water there which is a few miles from hog pen. There is a beach and it's 24$ a year and they have shower houses or $5 a day. That is close by to use. Near by lake city so Walmart and that is about 20 mins away. If you go the opposite way you will see flashing lights and there is a small dinner and gas station that doesn't sell gas there. CBD hhg and all those products sold there as well.

Peace and quiet

Stopped here on our way up north. We have a small teardrop trailer and ready for boondocking.

It was a little confusing going in at the National Forest... there's no signs.. but we kept on driving and found the spots right on the lake. Beautiful! Our spot had a picnic table and an informal fire pit area. There is enough trees around for shade, also a bear-proof garbage disposal and clean toilets. And the view over the lake... stunning!

We thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay there. Only one drawback, we were there when all the stinging green-headed flies were out. Man, can they be pesky! Nature....

I would gladly recommend this camping ground if you like to camp in nature.

One additional perk... it's close to major roads, so the cell service was great!

Another great stay

Came back to stay at this spot while traveling back up north. Arrived around 5pm on a Friday and there were 2 spots left ($10/night). With all of the rain lately, it’s getting pretty muddy back there but didn’t keep us from staying. Bathrooms are still clean but now they have a lot of drain flies. Definitely keeping this spot on my list for future travels!

Hidden gem!!

This place is such a hidden gem! There’s around 10-12 spots overall, all varying in size. No water or electricity but has a very clean pit toilet (was checked twice daily by the host). Half of the spots have picnic tables and there’s plenty of trash cans throughout. The host here is SO KIND and gave me so much advice on where to shower and get free water! Lake city is an easy 25 minute drive away and Jacksonville is 45 minutes away. Half of the spots are lake views and get some sun during the day. The other spots are pretty shaded so not good for solar. Fee is $10/night and I had full ATT LTE service, never happens! Boat ramp is located here so daily traffic is high but very quiet at night time and felt safe. Doggy loved all of the forest surrounding us on our hikes! Definitely would stay again.

Waterfront, cheap, beautiful.

Campsites along the waterfront of a lake. Boat ramp. Great place to launch a kayak. There is a small fee to camp here. It’s 10$, there is a red metal envelope drop by the bathroom. It’s about 20min off of the highway. A well kept dirt road leads to the lake front and the campsites. Beautiful, quiet, it feels remote but is still a convenient stop for the night if you’re driving cross country.
