    Ichetucknee Family Canoe and Cabins

    Great fun for the family.

Best campsite I've been to so far! With the state park close by, you can go tubing, kayaking or just for a swim. The office has pool tables and games for kids to enjoy. The staff are incredibly friendly. There's also a lot of friendly animals that live on the property, such as goats, a donkey, chickens, dogs and cats. It's a wonderful family friendly experience for all. Bring your friendly pets too! Very pet friendly.

    Eleanor Oaks RV Park

    Rv park, BUT not….

FHU, unleveled concrete pad with a picnic table. So close to the FT resident in the tiny home next to us, that we could not sit outside comfortably. Also, our area was right by her sewage hook up. And then there was a storage shed, leaf piles, random stacks of supplies, and a residential trailer behind us. The Pool was small but clean, we didn’t use. Dog park was ok, but other people don’t pick up after their pets, even with signs, and available poop disposal can. Maybe if management put mutt-mitts out, pet owners might use them. We booked months ago, and we arrived a bit after 5 due to traffic, there was no welcome packet, and no one answered the phone, with the posted #. Thankfully, the maintenance guy was friendly and helped us find our spot. It wasn’t easy to get to, or to see where it was. It was way too small to accommodate our 5th wheel and Dooley. If someone had been in the spot in front of us, we wouldn’t have been able to get in. The map online doesn’t even have our site listed. We were visiting family, so thankfully we weren’t there much. The area has lots of good restaurants, attractions, fishing, and springs! I do not leave 3 star reviews, but my honest review is to help others from paying $400 a week, at this park. I was hard pressed to leave a 3 star…. But Because of the area attractions, FHU, and helpful maintenance employee, was the reason I did. I would not reserve here again. Especially at the high price.

    Manatee Springs State Park Campground

    Manatee Springs State Park

We recently camped at Manatee Springs and the highlight of this park is their beautiful swim area with a dock all along the head spring. The campsites were fair and the bathrooms were not bad and included showers. There was a nice trail w/boardwalk that was great for viewing the swamp and flora & fauna. The boardwalk went down to the Suwannee River that offered a great place to fish or to view some big Sturgeons that start jumping around dusk.

We felt that the campsites were a little neglected compared to other Florida State Parks we had visited.

There is a nice cafe that also serves beer & wine.

We viewed the "Dive Spring" called "Catfish Hotel" which had a inch layer of green scum that was not very appealing except to mosquitoes.

There is a nice playground and this would be a great place to picnic with family and friends.

*There is also Fanning Springs State Park that is approx. 10 min. away that also has a GREAT swimming hole!

    Grand Lake

    Another great experience!

We wereet at the entrance by a gentleman in a golf cart. He brought us directly to our site, and helped us get squared away. He recommended the local restaurant for dinner. Not a lot of options, but all the options were good!

Great dog park, 2 separate zones!!!

This is a golf/ lake community that is like the old TV shows. People walking dogs, riding golf carts, and meeting at the club house. We will return when we have more time to stay!

Guide to Fanning Springs

Camping sites near Fanning Springs, Florida, span a diverse terrain including limestone outcroppings and cypress forests along the Suwannee River. Winter temperatures average 50-70°F while summer months can reach 90°F with high humidity. The Fanning Springs area sits at an elevation of approximately 20-30 feet above sea level, creating minimal elevation changes for campers navigating between campsites and water access points.

What to do

Scuba diving and cave exploration: Certified cave divers can explore underwater cavern systems at Ginnie Springs Outdoors. The spring maintains a consistent 72-degree temperature year-round. "Ginnie Springs is an absolute blast! The float is gorgeous and the springs are clear and the perfect temperature all year round," notes April L.

Boardwalk nature observation: Take a half-mile boardwalk walk at Hart Springs Park that follows the spring run and connects to the Suwannee River. "There's a boardwalk that makes a big loop against the river where we have see owls hawks and other large wildlife," mentions Bri F., highlighting the wildlife viewing opportunities.

Kayaking and canoeing: Rent boats at multiple locations to explore the spring runs and river systems. "You can rent a tandem kayak around $50 for 2 hours. Brings cash to the concession to avoid paying card fee of a few dollars per transaction," advises Kat A. about kayak rental options at Manatee Springs.

What campers like

Natural swimming areas: The springs offer refreshing swimming opportunities away from crowded beaches. "The spring gets packed with tubers, floaters, coolers, kayaks, canoes, scuba divers and every other human powered vessel as well but that just gives Ginny it's vibe. What most people don't realize is that if you get to the spring EARLY in the morning you can have it mostly to yourself," shares Perry J.

Wildlife encounters: Many campgrounds feature regular wildlife sightings. "We liked this campground a lot. Boardwalk and swimming in the springs was open, but we didn't see where to rent kayaks or buy anything, not sure if those are closed for COVID. Boardwalk was really cool and long and we saw a couple of manatees," says Laura M. about her experience at Manatee Springs State Park Campground.

Waterfront camping access: Several campgrounds offer direct river access. "Site# 54... Full hook-up, Easy to level, Gravel back-in... Lot is Shaded with lots of trees. Not a big lot since you have to share space with your neighbor," notes Julia H. about the waterfront options at Otter Springs Resort Park and Campground.

What you should know

Seasonal crowding factors: Many springs become extremely busy during summer months. "If your a tent camper you may not like it as you'll be surrounded by RVs. Lots to do here with all the facility amenities and nice nature walks/springs. Nice hosts. Popular place. Tent campers still pay $35+," warns R C. about Hart Springs Park.

Alcohol policies vary: Some campgrounds prohibit alcohol while others allow it. The Hart Springs regulations state "no alcohol is allowed," according to Jessica C., so "save the beer & BBQ cookouts for a different campground."

Cell service limitations: Remote locations often have limited connectivity. "The TMobile signal is zero. Verizon is good. Sprint is ok, but not good enough for a personal hotspot. The camp WiFi is erratic," notes L O. about connectivity at Otter Springs.

Tips for camping with families

Early morning activities: Plan water activities in the morning to avoid crowds. "When you arrive there is a check in at the office. We were tent camping and got us an unmarked spot next to the main spring. There's a review here that there's a hot spring which there isn't. There are two springs here that one flows into the other... creates a shallow stream area that parents and there toddlers can sit down in," explains Thomas R.

Child-friendly amenities: Look for campgrounds with kid-specific features. "This park also has a splash pad, volleyball and basketball court. Beautiful ½ a mile-long boardwalk along the springs and the Suwannee River," shares Brenda S. about the family amenities at Hart Springs.

Wildlife education opportunities: Use wildlife sightings as learning experiences. "We saw 3 alligators, one was a 13 footer! During winter and early spring you can swim with the manatees," notes PopandNana D. about the educational wildlife viewing at Manatee Springs State Park Campground.

Tips from RVers

Hookup positioning: At some campgrounds, utility hookups require extra equipment. "The hookups are at the front of the site, which requires you to have an additional 25 feet of hose and power. The staff does warn you prior to arrival of this, so we were well prepared," advises Josh W. about Yellow Jacket RV Resort.

Leveling challenges: Several campgrounds have uneven sites requiring extra effort. "Good luck finding a level site. The sewer was higher than the outlet on our camper, so it ran uphill," notes Jackie T. about her experience at Suwannee River Hideaway Campground.

Site selection strategy: When booking, consider proximity to amenities versus noise levels. "Don't stay at #110 next to the men's room. The slamming of the restroom's door will drive you nuts if you're trying to sleep," warns L O. about site selection at Otter Springs.
