United Campground of Durango operates seasonally from mid-April through mid-October with sites priced between $45-70 per night. The privately managed facility accommodates RVs up to 60 feet with full hookups and offers both drive-in and walk-in tent sites on a large, flat grass area. Reservations are available, and the campground allows pets throughout the property.
The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad runs directly through the campground, bisecting the RV and tent camping areas. Brian O. notes that "the train bisect the RV and Tent camping areas so you can watch it go by." Sites feature picnic tables and provide ample shade from mature trees, though campers report they sit fairly close together. The Animas River borders the property, but access to the water remains restricted to viewing only.
A city trolley stop sits directly across from the entrance, providing transportation to downtown Durango within blocks of the historic train station. The facility includes clean restrooms, hot showers, and a well-maintained laundry room with an exterior utility sink. WiFi reaches throughout the campground, and an outdoor pool operates during warmer months, closing at 7:30 PM. Fire restrictions typically prohibit campfires, requiring campers to bring gas stoves for cooking.
The campground stays open until 8 PM for late arrivals, and staff hold forgotten items for pickup. Kristen confirms "showers and bathrooms are clean and the staff was very pleasant." Sites lack individual sewer connections, but a dump station serves departing campers. The location provides convenient access to Mesa Verde National Park, approximately 45 minutes away, and Durango Hot Springs sits just up the road. Book ahead during peak summer months when train enthusiasts and Mesa Verde visitors fill available sites.
