Fishing and water sports enthusiasts will find direct access to the Arkansas River from this dispersed camping area managed by Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Hendricks Flat sits along Highway 285 near Nathrop, offering pull-through sites that accommodate RVs up to 26 feet according to recent campers.
The campground features individual sites with picnic tables and fire rings scattered through a small canyon gulch. Mary found "a pull through" when arriving at 1 PM in May, noting several sites remained available. Sites lack water hookups and restroom facilities, making this truly primitive camping. Despite the highway proximity, multiple visitors report surprisingly quiet conditions overnight.
Access requires crossing a bridge from Highway 285, then following a dirt road to the right rather than continuing up the canyon as GPS might suggest. The area provides opportunities for kayaking, fishing, and exploring equestrian trails along the river corridor. Cell service reaches most sites. Fire restrictions may apply seasonally, though abundant brush provides fuel when permitted.
