Joshua tree BLM by entrance

This Bureau of Land Management dispersed camping area provides free overnight stays just off Interstate 10, accessible by front-wheel drive vehicles on established dirt roads. Campers can drive directly to individual sites scattered across the desert landscape, with rock fire rings marking established spots throughout the area.

Sites spread far enough apart to offer privacy even when the area draws multiple visitors. "Easy to find a spot on a Saturday late December," reports Scott S., noting good distance between neighbors. The open terrain allows campers to position their rigs with views across the desert toward distant mountain ranges, though wind exposure can be significant with gusts exceeding 20 mph during certain weather patterns.

Road noise from Interstate 10 carries across the area, though experiences vary by campsite location and individual tolerance. Some campers report minimal highway sound, while others note the constant hum of traffic. Cell service reaches most sites reliably, allowing remote work and communication. Established fire rings support campfires, and the area accommodates large RVs alongside smaller camping setups.

Access requires attention to soft sand areas that can catch unprepared vehicles. Trash accumulation along access roads and at some sites presents an ongoing challenge, with campers frequently noting cleanup efforts during their stays. Jeffery K. describes "easy access to the park and some nice views" from the sites overlooking the interstate corridor.

For a different desert camping experience, Joshua Tree South Entrance sits less than half a mile west with a more sheltered setting.

Campers regularly cited convenient access to Joshua Tree National Park and excellent cell coverage. Several reviews noted spacious, established sites with fire rings. Some feedback indicated highway noise from I-10, though spacing provides good privacy.

Lots of trash, loud highway

Pros: when we arrived, we easily found a spot to set up camp far away from others. The view is great. We were able to drive in and out in a front wheel drive just fine. It looks like it was easily accessible for other vehicles as well! We had a couple of cool bird sightings.

Cons: I was disappointed to find that there was so much trash along the road and at the campsites. We did our best to leave the spot better than we found it, but there was too much trash to possibly leave it the way we would have liked to find it. The highway is very audible from this site. This didn’t come as a surprise, but it is an unfortunate downside.

Great spot but super windy!!

Beautiful spot but the 22+ mph winds are no joke!

Stayed as far back as I could where the crack ends the road.

It’s however well kept and free of trash. Keep it up, People!! 👍

Joshua tree south

It’s a little crowded, but still able to get decent distance from other campers. We did a little clean up in our spot, broken bottle ect. Highly recommend scouting before entering with your rig.

Fast and easy pull in

Just off the highway but before the park. Camping on left and right. Easy to find a spot on a Saturday late December. Neighbors are far enough away, good privacy, low noise

Close to freeway

Great area, only downside is it is close to the freeway, so there will be lights visible from traffic as well as traffic sounds / sirens

Great quiet spot for a rest!

Quiet! Many others, but SO much land, they were quite far from us! Lovely and cool in May! Praise Yahweh!

Far enough from the interstate, no noise! (No earplugs needed at night!)

Close to the entrance

Pretty basic spot, sites are nice and spread out so even when there are a lot of people you are not on top of each other. Easy access to the park and some nice views. The sites overlook I-10 so expect some road noise

Quick camp at BLM outside of JTNP

The place was pretty nice. Easy to find right off of 10. The noise of traffic wasn’t a problem at all. We had a nice fire and it wasn’t horribly cold at night and had a beautiful morning here too.

Easy to get to, scenic, quiet, close

Great spot, no noise from I-10, simple to get to, scenic, and very close to the park. Great cell reception, we both worked remote all week on numerous simultaneous video calls without issue on hotspot.

Dispersed only

This is dispersed/rustic camping only and not an RV park. Decent cell phone coverage and lots of open lots on BLM land just outside of park entrance. Large RV friendly on in certain areas. Stay on harder surfaces as you will sink.

Great Park! 35 miles across Great RV campground at the Hwy 10 entrance and nowhere else. Small vehicle campgrounds scattered around the park. Boulders are Amazing. We love Black Water campgrounds but they are starting to say No Class A units they have six sites.

Gorgeous

Right by entrance to park, be careful there are some soft sand areas. I did fine in my FWD Equinox. Good cell service and a lot of established sites with rock fire rings.
