Indian Point Campground

Boaters and anglers looking to access Roosevelt Lake will find Indian Point Campground positioned along the shoreline in Tonto National Forest. This Forest Service facility operates year-round with basic amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings, though maintenance varies seasonally and some facilities may be locked during certain periods.

The campground accommodates RVs up to 16 feet alongside tent campers, with sites accessible by vehicle or on foot. Many sites show signs of limited upkeep, with overgrown vegetation reported by recent visitors, but the trade-off comes with free camping and relatively few crowds. A boat launch sits within walking distance of the camping area, making this spot practical for those bringing watercraft. Cell service reaches most areas of the campground.

Lake levels fluctuate significantly, affecting water access and recreational opportunities. Several campers mention the proximity to roads, with vehicle noise tapering off between evening and early morning hours. Curious Compass B. notes "Beautiful dark night sky" during their stay. The area works best for self-contained campers comfortable with minimal services and those seeking easy lake access for boating or fishing activities.

Campers regularly cited the quiet, peaceful atmosphere and functional boat access as key strengths. Common feedback included concerns about overgrown sites and limited facility maintenance, though the free camping compensates for basic conditions.

Not maintained

It is definitely a formal campsite but isn’t maintained, at least at this time of year but it is free. A lot of sites were overgrown and the vault toilets in the camping loops were locked but the one closer to the boat launch was open. Personally that’s not a negative as we’re self contained and it was easy to access and quiet and had a bit of signal. The lake was really low but we weren’t here for water sports. Beautiful dark night sky We stayed two peaceful nights.

Excellent boat ramp

This review is for the boat ramp just past the camping area on the road. While the camping area shows signs of neglect. Thw boat rampnis fully functional. Remember to get your tonto water use sticker first ($4) as the ramp is unmanned.

Not exactly close to the lake.

Quiet. Only a few campers in May, many longer term. The sites are pretty run down / overgrown and nothing is offered but great for the price! Good if you have a small watercraft as there is a ramp close by.

Popular if you have a water craft of any kind

I went at the end of February, the days were warm but the nights were chilly! So bring jackets! We found a camp site that was as secluded as we could get in the area. Right next to a road but traffic normally was inactive between 8pm-7am. Less than a quarter of a mile walk to the lake. Nice people nice camp ground, but mostly meant for people who haul campers and boats
