Free dispersed camping in Apache National Forest provides drive-in and walk-in access via a one-lane dirt road with potholes and steep sections. The forested sites feature mixed pine and hardwood trees, offering shade while allowing some solar access for panels. Each site includes fire rings, picnic tables, and gravel pads, though the road could benefit from grading.
Vault toilets stay clean and well-maintained. Ground faucets exist but provide no water, so campers must bring their own supply. Cell service remains spotty with T-Mobile. Deadfall provides ample firewood for evening fires. The narrow access road challenges larger RVs, making this spot better suited for smaller rigs, tents, and car camping. For additional options, explore camping near Morenci.
Description
The majority of campgrounds on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests are primitive and offer dispersed camping. You may camp outside of recreational areas anywhere on the Forest at no charge. Potable water, toilets, and other amenities are not generally available. If you choose to camp outside recreational areas, be sure to bring adequate water or be prepared to purify any water source before drinking. Also, remember if you pack it in, then pack it out, don't leave your trash for others to clean up. No permits are required to camp in Wilderness areas.
