Brierfield Ironworks Historical Park

History enthusiasts and campers seeking full hookups will find both at Brierfield Ironworks Historical Park, where remnants of a Civil War-era iron furnace operation sit alongside modern RV sites. The state park campground accommodates rigs up to 70 feet with electric, water, and sewer connections, plus a dump station for shorter stays.

Large shade trees cover most sites, though some campers note the layout has "a bit of a parking lot feel." A creek runs through the property, adding natural sound to the camping experience. The on-site camp store stocks basic supplies and snacks, while clean restrooms and shower facilities serve the camping area, though the bathhouse requires a walk from many sites.

Historical buildings dot the park grounds, offering glimpses into Alabama's industrial past. An adjacent skeet range operates periodically, and the property includes a seasonal swimming pool. "Very clean well kept campground lady at campground store very nice well be going back," reports Donald J..

Campers exploring the area can find places to camp around Brierfield or visit nearby Chilton County Minooka Park. Reservations are available year-round, and pets are welcome throughout the campground.

Visitors often highlighted the quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and natural features like big trees and creek access. Some concerns about bathhouse condition and parking lot-style sites were noted by campers.

Has potential - but just ok

The good:

Quiet Big shady trees Creek goes through it Lots of neat buildings Camp store has some items and snacks

The not so good:

Not much information on what you are looking at or should look for

Picnic tables in sad shape

Camping spots had a bit of a parking lot feel

Bathhouse in disrepair and outdated. Also quite a walk from many campsites.

There appears to be a skeet range adjacent to the camp. We were lucky enough to see a forestry helicopter (tree trimming) working and it used the field to land to refuel.

There was also a swimming pool - closed during our visit for winter of course, but looked like it was an attraction.

Nice people!

Great place to get away and relax. Only stayed one night passing through and everyone was super friendly and the park was kept up well.

How does Brierfield Ironworks State Park compare to Tannehill Ironworks?

While both parks preserve Alabama's iron-making history, Brierfield offers a quieter, more intimate experience compared to Tannehill.
