Visited many times

I've stayed here on Labor Day weekend for many years.  It's always been clean and busy.  Great campground to stay at if you are visiting the new River NP.

Want to give 5 stars

The campgrounds were great. Great location for activities like white water rafting, private sites, VERY clean bathrooms, and wifi. The owner (husband) was a dick though. We booked for 4th of July I. JANUARY, spend HOURS online looking at pictures and picking the perfect spot. We got there and he informed us they gave away our spot so some campers (who booked after us) could be next to each other. He absolutely DID NOT CARE when we told him the effort we put in to pick the spot. He said they reserve the right to give away spot (which it said nowhere on the website). He literally would not even throw in a bundle of firewood for any inconvenience. His only response was that we could leave... terrible customer service.

I am sorry about your feelings, yes I do remember talking to you as you berated me in front of another employee of the campground as I went out to talk to you about the site we moved you to. The site we moved you to was more level than the one you had picked, had a deck overlooking the woods(as you show in the pics) and had about the same room as the other site. You did not want to here anything I said and your wife had to calm you down. I also remember after you left( which was the full amount of days of your stay) that we had to pick up dog feces from around your site( which is a rule at all campgrounds to pick up after your pet and you did not). I did offer you money back for the move, you did not want to here it and there was no mention from you at the time about compensation in any other means or forms.

Good camp ground

The staff is friendly, helped us back into our gravelled fully hookup site. Toilets are above average for a camp grounds. Laundry facility and pretty area to just relax. Plenty of shade.

This Was A Great Stay!!

We booked our stay a full TWO YEARS in advance, because we were staying here in order to visit the 24th World Scout Jamboree. The campy was absolutely overrun with Scouts from all over the world, and the owners and staff managed the situation admirably! They kept bathhouses clean (despite constant rain), the ensured quiet hours were adhered to, and our stay was great.

The area around the campground has some of the most amazing scenery I’ve ever seen. The New River Gorge Bridge and the National Park visitor center is a very short drive away, the river offers great fishing, and recreation opportunities include whitewater rafting and hiking. We’ll absolutely be back.

Perfect Site and Location for Exploring Fayetteville and NRG!

I would hands-down stay here again. I even considered asking if they needed some seasonal help!

I needed a place close to the town and gorge for a basecamp.

The fact that they had reliable WiFi throughout the park was a huge bonus for a remote worker.

The staff was friendly, helpful, and the restroom facilities were quite nice. They even delivered firewood right to my site!

It is super close to all that this recreational area has to offer and I think they might have access to some hikes right off the property (although I didn't explore them!)

Only bummer was my own failure to prepare for an overnight rainstorm, which resulted in a broken pole on my ARB awning.

It has since been fixed and it was my fault and mine alone!

Easy and convenient

We chose this campground because it's proximity to the main hub of New River Gorge. It was definitely quick and easy to get to from the main headquarters of the park. It's not the most remote or spacious campground but definitely worked. For a Saturday night in camping season, they were not very full (especially in the tent section), so the extra space was nice. Some of the RV sites looked pretty close with little privacy (but we're tent campers so my opinion doesn't really count). All that being said, there's a back section of the campground that looked very new and sites had more space and scenery.

The bathrooms were very nice and clean! The owners were also great. It was pouring when we checked in and they gave us a different tent site than originally booked so that we had a shelter out of the rain to set up our tent.

Overall, I'd recommend the campground!

Comfortable and laid back

We stopped here for one night as a stop for our trip home to NY from SC. We checked in around 7 pm and they walked us to our site AND helped us back in! This was our first trip with this camper and it was such a help after a day of driving in the rain. The site (19) was roomy and level. The owners were friendly. The playground was great for our daughters to burn off some energy. We would stay here again, especially for a weekend to see the area. We also had full hookups which was great.

Wish we had stayed longer

We stopped in one night on our way back to Pennsylvania. We had a lovely stay and the hosts were so hospitable. We purchased firewood and they walked it to our campsite. Our site was plenty large and the concrete pad was perfectly level. It was our last night of the season so we spent a lot of time in the morning cleaning out our gray and black tanks. We are pretty COVID cautious given some health conditions and this campground was very comfortable. I’d love to go back and see more of the areas.

Small but clean

Clean “little” camp ground. It would be a nice little place to spend the night if you were in the area doing other things. Not a place to spend a long weekend unless you have other plans around the area. Small site and on top of each other. Don’t know if we will be back or not!

Great, small, clean campground

This was my first stop with my new 5th wheel on my way down to Tennessee. We just stayed for one night. We actually had to change our reservation to the following night. They were great with changing it. No questions asked. The owners were very nice. They walked us to our site and helped us back into our spot. Everything worked well with all of the hookups. It was a quiet and clean campground. Very close to the highway and also close to Walmart and Lowe’s for supplies. I would definitely stop again when passing through.

Awesome Tent Sites

Stayed for one night here but loved it. Had tent site 2 and there was plenty of room for multiple people and multiple tents. Charge is very reasonable and there is a military discount. The campgrounds is very well maintained and out together. Management is very kind and resourceful. We loved our stay.

Great folks just not our preferred type of campground

Amy and I spent the Labor Day Weekend in Fayetteville, WV. The New River Gorge area is amazing. We camped at Rifrafters Campground. It is family owned and operated. The owners were great and made a point to stop by our site and see how we were doing. The campground is clean, well maintained and conveniently located. It is only about 7 minutes from the New River Bridge welcome center.

There were several long term campers, sites were very small and close together. Fire ring and picnic table ended up under our awning. Water, electric and cable service and a few sites had sewer. Campground WiFi was weak at our site (#27).

While this was a positive stay, we prefer State Parks versus RV campgrounds.

Quiet and Peaceful

We really enjoyed our stay at Rifrafters! It was quiet and our site as nicely spaced from other sites — #34 — so we had plenty of privacy and connection to nature. Laura greeted us as soon as we pulled in, gave us a lay of the land, and drove us to our spot. We were really close to all the fun recreation spots and would definitely stay here again, but for longer!! The weather was also perfect with low humidity but plenty of sunshine and shade.

Mid-sized, quiet, & convenient to lots of recreation areas

We stayed one night at site 34 in the back of the campground and loved it. It was quiet, with both shade and sun; it also had a wooden deck and nice picnic table. The back seems to be for small RVs and tents (we have a teardrop). We opted for a water and electric site; there is a dump station in the front of the park. The middle and front of the park was for larger RVs, tents and several cabins that were too close together for our preference. A 3 mile drive to long point trailhead and only 20 minutes from the beautiful Summersville lake. The campground has a bathhouse and store but we didn’t use either so can’t comment on those amenities.

Peaceful and off the beaten path

Great campground with roughly 40 sites for tent and RV camping. We called 30 minutes before our arrival and the friendly staff was able to accommodate us last minute. They drive me around on the side by side to let me pick our site. Most had full hook up but I ended up with a water and electric only. All facilities were clean and dump station was at a convenient location. I’ll be back!

Great little campground near Mt Hope, WV and near BSA's "Summit"

We had a great time at this campground. Very close to the BSA's"Summit Bechtel" site, where they hold the National Jamborees and held the 2019 World Scout Jamboree. As such, people registered for the full event stayed there, and those of us coming for just a few days stayed at other nearby places, such as Rifrafters. The camp was(understandably) filled with others coming for the Jamboree.:-)

Campsite was good and clean; short walk for all to the bath house; they ha a small playground, which the kids loved. They have wood for sale, as well as basic camping and food supplies(cans of beans, marshmallows, peanut butter, sodas/pop/cola, etc, lighters/matches, ice, etc). Also had 2 super-lovey kittens living in the office, which were a big hit with everyone.

The only downsite was that our campsite(#7) had no place for a tent other than stone driveway-like ground. As such, even new, very strong tent stakes bend and do not go in at all…had to weigh the tent down with gear and hope for no super-high gusts of wind.

Other than that, it was a great experience! Checkout by 12 noon at the latest.

Convenient Location

With impending storms, we chose to rent a cabin midweek at Riftrafters Campground in Fayetteville, WV.(riftrafters.com) rather than set up the tent in the rain.

Riftrafters Campground is centrally located in Fayetteville right of Rt.19, close to The New River Gorge, rafting, climbing, hiking, biking and some good eateries.

We stayed in Cabin 5, which offered a few wooden bunkbeds, one table, four chairs, one door and two windows...that's all you get in a camper cabin. Other cabins offer different bed options. No water or restroom/showers in the Cabins. Pricing is based on occupancy, much like tent camping. Which actually places it close to local hotel/motel lodging. Note: Do not anticipate spotless cabins or odor free, comfortable mattress...without heat or AC things tend to get musty.

Riftrafters Campground offers RV/Camper sites (13) which have water and electric, Cabins (8) no water, but has electric, and several tent areas which are rated primitive. I recommend securing reservations by telephone.

There is a covered picnic shelter and the showerhouse/restroom is clean, well-maintained and centrally located.

Within two miles you can enjoy breakfast at Tudor's and lunch/dinner at the Secret Sandwich Society...both of which we frequented. For outdoor equipment needs, I prefer Waterstone Outdoors (waterstoneoutdoors.com), but there is another new business that recently opened between Tudor's and Secret Sandwich Society (secretsandwichsociety.com).

Obviously, you will search the web for whatever activities you want to engage in, but I recommend paying a visit to The New River Gorge Canyon Rim Visitor Center on the NE corner of The New River Bridge. Rangers there know most of the best trails to hike and how to get there. The Park is 70,000 acres, after all. I'd also recommend Class VI River Runners if you plan on hitting the New or Gauley Rivers...(class-vi.com). Hint: If you really are looking for an experience...run the Gauley in spring or fall during the dam release.

There is really so much to do in this area that a week is just too short. I gave Riftrafters 4 stars based on their proximity to local activities, but believe they could do much to spruce up the cabins.

Nice spot in the NRG

Great location for activities in the New River Gorge. There are different sections within the campground and some are more crowded than others. There are some sites "way out back" as the owner says that we tend to prefer just for privacy and there is more distance between you and your neighbors. The office has cheap firewood and your typical amenities if you forgot something but not a huge selection. Bathhouse is very large so I've never had a problem finding an open shower or stall. It's only a few minutes away from a TON of stuff to do/see. Since there isn't open camping in the gorge, this is the next best thing. Highly recommended!
