About

State Park

The closest campground to the New River Gorge Bridge. Chestnut Creek Campground offers quiet primitive camping in the woods. We are a mere half a mile (0.5mi) from the New River Gorge Bridge! That's walking distance folks. Our hygienic facility has hot showers, lavatory stalls, hand washing sinks, and a wash basin located outside for dish washing and filling up water jugs. Firewood and Ice are available on site as well. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire pit. A general store and burrito bar are located literally around the corner; Both are within walking distance. Hiking and Climbing trail-heads (Fern Buttress, Endless Wall, Beauty Mountain; to name a few) are just down the way and access to the river is a stone's throw away (our drive is just across from Fayette Station Rd). If you're wanting to venture further to more local restaurants/shops; we are only a 5 minute drive from downtown Fayetteville. We are a pet friendly establishment for those with dogs who love to travel as much as you do. We keep quiet hours from 11pm-7am (starts @ midnight on weekends). Mainly we accommodate rustic tent camping, however; some sites are able to accommodate pop-up campers and trailers up to 20ft (we do not have hookups/electric). Call today to reserve a site for your upcoming adventure at the New River Gorge.

Quiet Nice Campgrounds

I showed up Sunday afternoon and since Monday was a holiday the sites were still full, but all cleared out in the morning Monday. After that, I was basically the only one there.

Excellent Campground

The sites were spacious and fairly isolated. Nice amount of woods around each site. Showers had hot water and were clean. Campground owner was extremely friendly and helpful. Will absolutely stay here again.

Rustic & Wonderful

this is a young family owned and operated rustic camping with a great vision! Bridge Weekend Cancelled for 2021, but don't let that stop you. Wed. Oct. 13th, 2021, Chestnut Creek campground is hosting a fundraiser for an injured friend with a band playing on their newly built stage. arts and crafts vendors, fire roasted corn & food vendors. the grassy Hill creates a perfect amphitheater. I'm hiking New River Gorge but may stay through Wednesday just to catch this venue and support this amazing family and family friendly campground with a homestead feal. It is rustic so bring what you need and I suggest towel hooks to hang over bathroom stall for changing, but there is a nice long bench and great big showers. Feels like camp! ran into Seth this morning and they have all the stuff to set up disc golf too. this is my new favorite!

Rooftop Tent Camping

My partner and I are on a National Park road trip so we stayed here while hiking around New River Gorge. It’s very close to the park as well as Fayetteville in case you need any supplies. It had everything we needed, and the campsites are quite secluded. You can reserve a date, but you get to pick what campsite you want when you arrive.

Clean restrooms and showers. Owner is nice and helpful. He gave me good advice on what to see and cool uncommon attractions.

Great primitive camping, with bathroom facilities

Very inexpensive (15 bucks for one night). Super close to new river gorge. Nice bathroom facilities, although I did not use the shower it looked decent enough. Would stay here again!

Nice spot near the NRG

Tent-focused (but able to take up about a 16ft trailer), no hookups, reservations are via (304) 574-3136 and on site contact/needs are via (801) 680-5496.

Just down the road from the i-built-a-huge-floating-speaker campground, but much more laid back, quiet and my speed.

Great tent campground

Great tent campground very near the New River gorge and close by Summerville Lake and the Gulley River. Multiple campsites in heavily forested area. Drive up to the sites. One bath house with bathrooms & showers. Fairly spacious and kept clean. Outside double sink for washing dishes or clothes. Family owned and run by younger couple with young children. Very friendly and efficient. None of the RV campers. :)

Quiet camping near New river gourge

It is a nice little campground near New river gorge bridge and Summersville lake. It is a heavily forest area with lots of sing birds. The owner was friendly. They have one clean shower house with toilets and hot water. We enjoyed our stay. Fire wood can be purchased at the main office

Family run, chosen family friendly

This place is run by the family that lives there and has been my go to spot for stays at the New. Great launching pad for river activities and climbing. The bathrooms are clean and spacious to accommodate the number of campers. It can be a little old school in that you have to text to get in touch with them and make reservations but they are always willing to make things work so you can have a good place to sleep. If the sites are full, they'll help you find a nice place in the communal areas. Also super close to the burrito spot.

Great Campground

This was a phenomenal campground. It is family run and the owner made us feel very welcome. They had firewood for sale as well as fresh eggs from their free roam chickens. There were also showers and flush toilets. The site we had was awesome as it had a wooden platform for our tent and plenty of trees for our hammocks. Will definitely camp here again if we visit the area again!

Beautiful Family Run Campground

Small primitive, family run campground in the heart of the gorgeous new river gorge area. Owner was super nice, helpful, and welcoming. Sites are designed for tents or smaller rigs mostly but we managed to squeeze our 35ft TT into site 17. There is no water, sewer or electric so you must be self contained as it was designed for primitive camping. There is a bathhouse with restrooms and showers. There is also a disc golf course or you can watch the free roaming chickens. We highly recommend this campground if you're looking for friendly owners who make you feel welcome and sites that bring you back to nature and the great outdoors. Just minutes away from all kinds of trails and touristy stuff, this campground gets 5 stars from us. We will be back anytime we visit this area!

Nice quiet camp ground..

We didn't have reservations but the manager told us to text him when we arrived after hours Charge was per person not per site, but reasonable at $15. This seams to be common practice in the area. No electric or water at site but bathhouse with showers. Mostly tent sites in wooded area Our visit was the first full weekend I. November and many other campgrounds were closed for the winter.

Wooded tent campsites

Stayed here 2 nights with all our children and grandchildren. We had a great couple days with rain at times. Site was large with lots of trees. Seth was very friendly and helpful. This is a nonelectric site campground and I found that appealing. There are flush toilets and showers. We hiked Endless Wall Trail and Glade Creek Trail to Kate’s Falls

A Work in Progress

This is a quiet campground, with lots of space and site options, run independently by a family. Most sites are simple with just a picnic table and fire pit. There are lots of trees in between many of the sites for great privacy. There is only one bath house and it can be a short hike depending on the location of your site, but it was clean, had several stalls, showers, sinks and electricity.

The campground charges per person which was different from what I'm used to, but it was very reasonable and comparable to other campgrounds in the area.

The family is working regularly to add to this campground and make it better. There are visible works in progress all over. The owner stopped us on the way out and asked for feedback. He is eager to make improvements.

Dog-friendly

Has a Frisbee/Disc Golf Course.

Close to rivers, climbing and hiking activities.

Cell reception was great all throughout this area. That's not a camping necessity for us, but we all noticed that everyone's phone had great reception with a variety of network providers. We do a lot of remote camping and expect our phones not to have reception. This made it easy to research new activities and things to see while we were there.

My apologies for not having photos of our site. My phone malfunctioned on this trip and had to be replaced. The photos did not transfer sadly.

Nice Campground for tents/Hammocks/Car Camping

This is a very nice little campground set up for tents, hammock campers and some car campers. No hook-ups. Definitely not for RVs or Camper trailers. All the sites are wooded and they allow you to use fallen trees/branches for your fires. Nice bathhouse with good hot water and water pressure. Very nice manager.
