Convenient to Chattanooga

We enjoyed spending several days exploring Chattanooga. The camp staffers are friendly and helpful. The facilities are clean and the park is well kept. The sites are tight. You're right on top of each other. Fine for a couple of days.

Great Experience

The staff was wonderful, and it was quiet. The tent site we stayed in was fairly level, with a nice shade and plentiful grass. The fire ring was a nice size with nice cooking grate. We were directly across from the pool, and it was never loud. The firewood was $5 cash per bundle delivered to your site until 10 pm. Ice was $2.50/bag. Bathhouse and laundry were clean and functional. The tour of the caverns was well worth the money spent and in much more of a natural state in comparison to Ruby Falls. We will definitely be back!

Never Again

I would not go there again. We arrived Sat. 11/2023 and we had booked the place back in Jan. They put us in a very small spot( site 73) that I had to jack knife the trailer 3 times to get it in there.(25 foot) Once all set up found out the cable doesnt work but the wifi does. There is no cable hook up in these 3 sites which the office failed to tell us. So they said we can move us to site number 354 and everything works. So we moved and once all got up again the cable still does not work and now there is no wifi at all. You loose the wifi signal about half way down to the site. GREAT so I went back and ask them whats up and they said they were not aware of this and they will send somebody to the site to check it out. We waited a hour and a half and nobody showed. We had to go because we had reservations for a tour. When we got back nothing changed and they said that they dont know whats going on and could not give any refund of any type. For$52.00 a night I would think they would have their ducks in a row, if they want return campers. Never again

Pricy Field Campground - Nothing Deluxe

PROS

Reserved 148 days prior to arriving

Valet escort to site after check in

Quiet except for distant train whistles

Clean, small toilet/shower facility with climate controlled

Gravel parking pad surrounded by grass

Small concrete patio with wooden top picnic table

Metal fire ring with cooking grate that was clear of ash and debris upon arrival

Coin operated laundromat in toilet/shower facility. 4 washers and 4 dryers.$2.75 washer;$2 dryer

Campground sells fire wood and delivers to site.$5 for 5 large pieces

Campground staff immediately addressed cable connection problem that we identified upon arrival

Good roadside signage to the park, but deceiving when you turn into a residential neighborhood

Publix and Super Walmart 5 miles away along with Murphy fuel and Dollar Tree

Close to Chickamauga Battlefield and Lookout Mountain Battlefield

Great functioning WIFI (This was the best part of this campground!)

3 bars Verizon

CONS

No senior, veteran or Good Sam discount

Check-in clerk insisted we take pool ID bracelets, review and sign pool rules when we refused to use pool during our 2 night stay and would not permit us to check-in without agreeing to pool rules.  We never used the tiny pool!

Campground is basically a field/parking lot with campsites 15 feet from the next site so no privacy from neighbors. Our campsite fire ring was next to the neighbor's sewer connection.

Site 212 sold to us as a deluxe site, at $62/night, which we found no evidence of anything deluxe at our site or in the campground

Site 212 pull-thru was not long enough to keep our tow vehicle connected to our 27ft trailer

Gravel roadways in the campground, which were very dusty

Site 212 unlevel

No shade whatsoever for site 212

Wooden picnic table top warped and not useable

3 toilets, 3 sinks and 3 showers for women. Only facility in campground!

Tiny pool

Pets were not leashed and running throughout campground

Unsupervised kids throwing rocks at vehicles/campers

Bit pricey for an older campground

Camp staff was great, we arrived late they took us to our spot. Spot was by a creek that made sleeping very easy. However spot was very rocky and you could tell rain would wash right under tent area. Bathhouse was in good shape and very warm. We just think that for the age of the camp ground and the type with no electric or water, 55$ was high for 2 nights. Spots are very crowded and close together. We did not have a bad 2 days, please understand that. Will we go back again unlikely , however one never really knows. Stay was March 2022

Campground Surrounded by Mountains and Near Chattanooga

This campground was very clean and quiet. It was also very accessible to a number of sites including Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Chickamauga Battlefield, Cloudland Canyon, etc. The setting is pretty -  a valley with mountains surrounding the campground. The pool looked very nice although it wasn't open for the season when we were there in late March.

The sites were close together, but it was okay for us because we were out and about exploring the area most of the time.

It was nice, but kind of crowded

For a first outing with our new camping gear, our weekend at Raccoon Mountain campground was a great success. However, the terrain of the property makes it so all the campsites are in relatively close quarters, and with RV parking taking up most of the property, the primitive site experience just wasn’t as nice and relaxing as we had hoped for. Plus, the road going through the primitive area was gravel and steep, so it can be difficult to drive on if you don’t have 4-wheel drive. The staff was very nice, though, and they brought firewood directly to your site if purchased. The on-site bathroom facilities, at least on the men’s side was pretty dirty, and could have used more regular servicing throughout the day, considering the number of people using it. I’m far from discouraged about this campsite, but I’m not exactly wowed either. I’d return to see if I would have a different experience!

Great Stay!

We had to book this campground last minute due to a change in our Baseball Tournament schedule and the campground has been very accommodating every step of the way. Beautiful Mountain View’s, quiet, peaceful and clean accommodations. Pool was great for the kids, restrooms perfect for our needs and yes, when it rains it was muddy as others said; but you are in the mountains, isn’t that expected when it rains? We even had to change sites due to the last minute booking and since we had to leave early for a game and couldn’t wait for our new site to be unoccupied they placed us in a Temporary location so we can have AC for our dog. I was extremely grateful and very appreciative for their hospitality! Thank you Raccoon Mountain for a great stay, if we are ever up in this area again you can count we will be back! When you stay there; definitely take the time to see the caverns- they were amazing!

Don't have an RV? Don't come here.

This place is an awful campground. There's nothing but rocks everywhere, making it very difficult to set up tents, and uncomfortable even with sleeping pads.

Hammocks are also difficult to set up here, but that doesn't matter since you aren't allowed to use them for some stupid reason. Supposedly a few idiots managed to hurt themselves and sued three different campgrounds, and somehow won. Do not camp here, it's worthless.

Convenient to Major Local Attractions

We have a 40’ class A and flat tow a Jeep. We stayed in site 203 for 3 nights. While we really enjoyed the campground, this site was not ideal for an RV our size. We weren’t able to put our awnings out or comfortably sit outside. Next time, we’ll see if it’s possible to stay in site 226. Overall, the campground was quiet at night and the kids loved playing with so many other children on the playgrounds. We all loved that Crystal Cave was right on site and enjoyed the guided tour. (Advanced reservations are required.) We also loved the guided tour just down the road at Ruby Falls! We explored Rock City as well. Next time we hope to get tickets to ride the incline railway. We do recommend trying the local Mr. T’s Pizza & Ice Cream. It was great & they deliver right to your site!

Campsites have rocks and concrete patio with picnic table. Campground has nice shower facilities. Very clean and spacious. There is a gym and pool area. You can buy wood here for $5 a bundle. All the staff were great and nice. Great wifi if you need it 😉. Only 2 miles to Walmart. Less than 10 minutes to get to the sites in Chattanooga.

Awesome campground, a must stay

We stayed at this campground in the middle of November 2020 around Veterans Day.  We booked one of the cabins which was perfect (there are several at various sizes).  The one we stayed in had two rooms; one to sleep in (a double and a bunkbed) with a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker and a bathroom with a walk in shower.  The campground was clean and quiet.  There was a Landry room at the bathhouse, which we were able to wash our clothes before heading home.  You are minutes from Chattanooga and other sites like Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain/Rock City (it's best to purchase ticket online and recommended by the sites).  The staff was awesome and polite, easy to talk to.  There was a hiking trail.  You can tour the cavern for a cost, which was separate from the park office.  We look forward to staying again, hopefully by then in a RV.

Definitely Going Back!!

This was a GREAT campground! The moment we drove up a golf cart met us at our truck. The gentleman asked our name and retrieved our check-in package then led us to our spot. We never had to get out of our truck until our camper was in it's spot. They pick up trash from your spot twice a day. The grounds are very well maintained. We stayed in spot 201. That spot had great Wifi! The roads and spot were gravel but there is a slab with the picnic table on it. All the employees were GREAT! Many dogs camping and they have a fenced in dog area. The Raccoon Mountain Cave was one of the highlights of our trip! One negative is the spaces are close together but that didn't effect our spot because 201 is on the end. Can't wait to go back one day!

Really pretty grounds

We loved the shade trees. The staff are so attentive, they are very accessible and are present all day into the evening without being intrusive. They ensure you get to your site and are satisfied. The only “down” part of our stay was our site. For us, being next to the pool and playground was not as preferred as it would be for others. We don’t have kids and the place has lots of kids running strong doing what kids do. Our site would have been better for those with kids. With Covid, the playground is closed, however that didn’t stop summer of the kids. Kind of tough time to enforce and they are having a good time. So, not really negative, just a preference for us.
