Beautiful weather

We closed out our spring to summer camping season with a beach trip. We had a nice level site with good privacy on both sides. This park is well maintained with ver clean restrooms and friendly staff. The beach is a good distance from the campgrounds, but you can clearly hear the waves breaking on the beach anytime of the day.

Close to ocean, very clean campground plenty of restrooms

This was a great campground to stay at. The restrooms are very clean, plenty of hosts, and spots. I would say this campground is particular to R.V. be careful if you are tent camper when selecting spots. I am a glamper camper so electricity is nice.

I would like to see a dish cleaning station there was a few water dumps stations but none with water.

Clean rest rooms, they even leaf blow off the parking pads when someone leaves. Sites are close to each other, we kept hearing someone sigh loudly, lol but for the most part pretty quiet. Lots of dog lovers, not many children. Great temps for summer, mid-50’s low 60’s.

Take a break from phone signal in this gateway to hobbit hike!

This place can get crowded in the 30-50 sites- but great rv sites out back, great bathrooms. Everything still lush and trees and great short hike to the beach. No phone service for me which was a nice break- great access to China loop and hobbit hike all the way to heceta lighthouse for rhododendron and coastal rainforest, huckleberry laden views. One of my favorite spots. Really private “wheel your stuff in” sites 70-75 with own parking lot for great solitude with all the amenities of a state park. Yurts also available but usually booked way in advance

This Place Has Everything

This campground is so nice and well kept, each site is pretty private and the whole area is just beautiful.  Some sites have a bit of sun but most are in the shade.  Some of the sites were tight and we had to back in to the site very creatively and carefully in our 26ft class c.  I'd imagine some of the huge 5th wheels would have trouble managing in some of the sites.

Oregon State Parks now charge a 25% surcharge for RV spots (not tent sites) for non-Oregonions.  Sites are reservable on oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com.  Those without reservations can take empty sites for one night at a time.

Some sites are electric and water only, and some are FHU for $3 more.  There are also hiker/biker sites at $8, and yurts (one is pet friendly for $10 more).

Free dump station and potable water across the hwy at the day use area.

They have recycling here, and they take glass, aluminum, tin, and paper, and empty propane bottles, but not plastic.

They have free showers and firewood for sale.

Zero cell service here with our Verizon and ATT phones.

Nice secluded campground

Stayed 4 nights. Clean bathrooms, good space between campsites. Nestled in the tall trees, it would be cool during a hot summer. Since I visited in November and it rained, the drops from the trees were loud on my trailer roof. (Well duh!) 1/2 mile walk to the beach. Clean, safe, and quietWell maintained campgrounds, as are all Oregon parks. Great reservation system. (California in comparison has a terrible website. What’s up CA?) 30 and 50 amp electric, water and sewer at the site (Full hookups). Great dump station across the highway. Back in spaces, so a 40 foot RV would barely fit. This is an older but well maintained campground.

Short walk to the beach, clean and serene campground.

My family visited for our first time over a long weekend in early July. We didn’t really know what to expect, it was honestly just the very last unreserved  site with hook ups that we were able to find that wasn’t a +3hr drive from home and our spot was right next to the bathrooms. Well, let me just say that we seriously enjoyed this campground. I actually loved be right next to the bathroom, it made it so easy with our 5 year old. And the bathrooms and showers were kept so clean, they didn’t smell so that wasn’t a problem at camp. The whole campground was extremely neat and well kept. It was also very quite and really just very peaceful. There is a 1/2mi trail to the beach. It is a nice trail, older kids were able to ride their bikes with their parents to the beach. I will say that at least each time we visited that particular beach, it was VERY windy and there is a lot of dry sand that hits your skin. I got a bit of sand burn. This campground is also very close to the hobbit trail and so it would be a very smart idea to take advantage of that and get there early in the morning to get good parking. That beach is a little less windy in my recollection. Overall, this is one of my new favorite campgrounds.

Quiet and beautiful

My family has been camping at this state park for about 40 years. My parents camp-hosted at the park for 28 years. The park is quiet and well-kept. A pretty trail follows a creek under Hgwy 101 and out to the ocean from out of the camping area. The day-use area is about a 1-minute walk from the parking lot, and there are numerous quiet picnic tables for the all-important picnic lunch! And this year they began taking reservations. Worth stopping at!

Beautiful and Peaceful

This campground was pretty small but was very well maintained. The roads and parking spots at the campground were paved. There were trees everywhere and even a creek running along side the campground-you couldn't see much of the creek because of all the plant life-but the sound of the creek was relaxing. My campsite was really nice. I liked the close proximity to the very clean bathhouse. The campsites were a decent size and weren't right on top of each other like most campgrounds. They also had quite a few bushes and trees between most of the sites so it offered some semblance of privacy. They had a garbage and recycling area there which I thought was great. They sold firewood at the entrance (no one was there at the time I arrived) and there are camp hosts (they were off duty when I was there).

The trail to the beach was a half mile one way, mostly flat and cleared of brush. It sloped a bit when going underneath highway 101 by the creek. The beach was huge and practically empty (maybe 10 people on the whole beach). I didn't see any garbage along the trails or throughout the campground which was nice. The campground was very quiet and you didn't hear traffic noise. The only thing was, at the campground and actually along that entire section of the coast (lighthouse area too) I had absolutely NO cell service (I have AT&T), several others at the campground I talked to had no service either, so be aware. I would definitely come back to this campground, it was quiet and beautiful and close to several trails.

Great place to camp a couple nights.

Right across the highway from the beach is the Washburne State Park campground. It’s a short walk to the beach from the day use area of the park. There are two loops for RV’s and those who want electric sites. The seven tent sites are all walk in, set back in the trees and very private from each other as well as set apart from the RV sites. The campground provides a cart for you to haul any gear to your campsite. I had tent site 77, which was mostly level, with a picnic table and fire pit and I had hookup site 11 the next night.  Firewood was available for sale by the campground host near the entrance. I loved how quiet the campground was at all times and that I could hear the ocean at night from both of my sites. The bathhouse was new, clean, and had great water pressure! The only downside was that the nearest bathhouse was a long walk into the RV loop and the small toilet and sink only bathroom in the tent area was locked while I was there. A creek ran through the campground, but was downhill from the tents, so you really don’t know that it is there.

Walk-in campsites are very convenient, even with a lot of gear, using the wheelbarrows that the park provides. I highly recommend this campsite!

Park is open again

Washburne had been closed awhile (Covid and budget issues with the state parks).  But now is open and looking real good.  The park crews have put a lot of maintenance in.  And the park is on the reservation system now, so you cn be assured of a site.

Trails are in great shape, and short walk to the beach is well worth it.  Beautiful stretch of beach, and my dogs ran to exhaustion.  The longer walk to Heceta Head and the lighthouse was great.  Only a few miles.

Sites are water and electric or tent.  RV dump station is available across the road at the day use area.  Clean and potable water to boot.

Sites are shady but blocked generally from the coastal breezes.  Bring a jacket;-)

Loved the stay, quiet and comfortable.

Hobbit trail to the beach

This Oregon state park is one of the few Oregon state parks who don’t have reservations. It is a first come first come facility. We usually choose a standard site with no hookups although the park has those, too. Of course, there are flush toilets and showers. And, a central garbage collection dumpster plus recycling bins (good on you Oregon). There are water spigots available at each standard site and of course, a picnic table and fire ring. There is at least one dog waste bag dispenser on site plus a waste bucket.

There is a cool hobbit trail to the beach (the campground is on the opposite side of the Pacific). There is usually at least one and sometimes two camp hosts on site. China Creek wanders its way through the woodsy campground. The restrooms could use an update but they are always clean.

Edit to add: this is now camping by reservation.

Not the way I remembered it.

We enjoyed several wonderful camping trips at this park in the 1990s and eagerly looked forward to returning but were so disappointed upon returning that we ended up not staying! The trees had grown so tall that the sun was never going to reach any of the sites, many of which were closed for maintenance. It had rained for two days prior to our arrival and the sites were dark, damp, and in some cases, dripping wet. On the plus side, there is a wonderful trail that goes under Route 101 with direct access to Heceta Head Lighthouse. I would consider giving it another try in the future because it used to be one of our favorite campgrounds.

Solid camping spot

Clean, accessible campground near the coast. The half mile trail from the camp to the beach is very nice and easy to walk. My partner and I van camp so we don’t need electric or water hook ups, but we took the spot near the path. Costs $31 a night in a RV spot, and $21 for a tent sight. The bathrooms and showers were clean, and they have firewood for sale in the camp. My only “complaint” would be my 2002 Astro got some looks from the other campers, who seemed to be older, well-off white folks. There were many expensive trucks, trailers, and RVs parked here lmao. I bet they got a kick out of us young-ins in a little van.

Very Popular

The second Friday of September this was the only campground along the Oregon coast that had an open spot. The only space available was the handicap site, which is only open to non-handicapped campers after 7pm. As a tent camper this was not an ideal spot. The majority of the sites are designed for RVs and have hook ups. There were plenty of tent campers using these sites, especially the smaller ones further back. There are also hiker-biker sites located sort of in the middle of an RV loop. There are also tent sites that are removed from the tent parking area. When I drove through the tent site parking I couldn't see any of the tent sites.

The campground has flushing toilets and hot showers. If you are camping showers are free and unlimited. The showers are also made available to non-campers for $2. The campground is connected to hiking trails in the area of varying difficulty including a 1/2 mile trail to the beach. The state park is on both sides of the road but the campground is on side away from the beach. The Oregon coast in this area is incredible and the geography changes drastically as you drive between Newport and Florence. Both towns are worth a visit.

Nice place to stay on the Oregon Coast

A great little campground settled along the coast near Florence, Oregon.

Get there early as reservations cannot be made and its all first come, first serve! It is extremely busy during peak season, so if your looking for a not so busy campground, this is not it.

Full hook ups available along with restrooms/ showers, fire wood for sale and there is a dump station on site. Picnic table and fire pit at every site. You are along HWY 101, but the trees do provide a little bit of a sound buffer. There is no playground at this campground, however they offer the Junior Ranger Program to occupy kiddos which is great! Trails nearby lead down to the beach and its 2 miles by trail to the Heceta Head Light House.

Overall this is a great family friendly little campground!

Visiting in the off season is a great option if you can't get a spot in peak season as it is open year round.

I would give this one the full 5 stars, but the inability to make reservations for this State Park is a huge con :/

There is a quarter mile trail through the woods that goes to the beach. On a sunny August Saturday the beach was empty even with a completely full campground. The beach is gorgeous!! There are several other trails that you can take right from the campground.
