Our camp sites are primitive but we do have a free standing tiny house with 2 indoor bathrooms/showers, 2 outdoor showers, and a utility sink with great drinking water on the outside. We have WiFi which may help as cell service is spotty on the west side of Taos. Access to our brand new lounge! Sites are not marked, we prefer to let people find places that feel good to them. The area is safe. No creepy crawlies, just coyotes, bunnies, friendly dogs and a cat. There are fire pits and wood is available for purchase on site. Please respect neighbors, campground is mellow.

The 14-acre lake is perfect for canoeing and is regularly stocked with rainbow and brook trout. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail goes through the campgound, and is popular with horseback riders and hikers.
Facilities
The campground has 31 camping sites. There is also a group day-use shelter and group overnight campsite, both available by reservation. Horse corrals and water troughs are available at two campsites. Vault toilets are provided. Currently (May 2024) there is NO water. Please bring your own water. First-come, first-served sites are available.
Natural Features
Hopewell Lake is a small, man-made lake, set high in the Carson National Forest at an elevation of 9,500 feet. A forest of conifer and aspen trees covers the area and offers partial shade in the campground.

Here visitors may experience the beauty of an 800-foot deep canyon sliced into volcanic flows by the Rio Grande (Spanish for Great River) and Red River where they come together. Located in the high plains of northern New Mexico, this area is rich with history, rugged beauty, and enticing recreational opportunities. A back country byway, visitor center, campgrounds, picnic facilities, and trails are available for visitors. Several spectacular overlooks are found here, including La Junta Point, one of the most dramatic views in the state, overlooking the confluence of the Red River and the Rio Grande -- and it is wheelchair accessible. The canyon ecosystem descends 800 feet from rim to river, creating a unique diversity in plant and animal life. Ancient piсon and juniper forests include 500 year-old trees. Watchable wildlife opportunities include mule deer, red-tailed hawk, mountain blue-bird, and prairie dog. The climate is semi-arid with summer thunderstorms common in July and August, and snow possible from November through March. Summer temperatures range from 45 to 90F and in winter from -15 to 45F.
