National Forest

Delmoe Lake Campground and Picnic area is located 15 miles from Whitehall and Butte in the Whitetail-Pipestone area - a popular destination for OHV riding. The lake is a man-made reservoir controlled by the Pipestone Water Users for irrigation near Whitehall. The campground has 25 sites for trailer and tent camping. Maximum trailer length is 32 feet. Wood is generally able to be found within the campground area. Water and restrooms are available. The picnic area has tables and a boat launch primarily for fishing activities. The lake level will fluctuate during the summer season as the water is used for irrigation.

From Butte, MT, take Interstate 90 east for 6.3 miles to Homestake (Exit 233). At end of exit ramp, turn left and go 9.8 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 9371). Turn left onto Rt. 9371 and go 0.8 miles to campground.

Dry.

Secluded

Great spot with some really neat ATV trails. The road is washborded in spots but it wasn't so bad that we couldn't get our 42ft rig up. We parked in a big pull off under some power lines and there was a nice little fire pit there as well. There was quite a bit of trash around so we picked up what we could but other than that we really enjoyed it.

Amazing!

Stop looking for a spot, this is where you want to be. Beautiful spots. Some have 3 bars of 4G Verizon, others none. Peaceful spot.

Lake Delmoe

Great campground on the lake with. Some sites are more private then others as well as have better views of the lake. Great place to bring your ATV.

Cute but always busy

This is a great little lakeside campground that only has a couple of dozen campsites. It has picnic tables and grills, but the parking is difficult as it’s basically on a big steep hill. The lake is beautiful, but not huge. Not the type of lake that you would spend on a motorboat all day. They also occasionally have periods where the swimming is forbidden due to algae. A great place for a weekend camping trip. Two loops, one is more for tents, and the other is more for trailers.

Lovee - went for winter camping perfect for hammocks

Best out of the 7 campsites we visited on our Montana trip! It’s gorgeous and open and has trees you can easily sling up hammocks. Gorgeous lake.

Beautiful

Camp sites are fairly spread out, there’s room for RVs if that’s your style. Boat launch available for easy access and a large enough parking lot to park your trailer. There’s slight phone service in some spots. Lots of rock formations in the area to climb and explore. There’s a few trail heads to get to the peaks and get an amazing view of the lake and surrounding valley.

great campsite!

a little far from Butte, but really pretty lake. love the vibe here as far as nice scenic lake sites that are well spread out. we didn’t have to hurry here as it’s a wednesday and it was pretty empty but still traveled. good phone service!!

Relaxing

Had a great time here! We camped where we had a view of the lake. The water is nearly always calm and great for paddle boarding!! There is dirt bike trikes up above and didn’t mind it at all, in fact I thought it was awesome for those that do enjoy biking. We happened to find the perfect spot for us. The dogs also enjoyed their time relaxing in the woods. Look forward to going back :)

Great campground for lake access

Clean campground and bathroom facilities. Most sites offer ample privacy and direct lake access. Great campground for 4wheeling base, but the attendant can be pretty grumpy

Great, easy, inexpensive National Forest campground

Located in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest near Butte, Montana, Delmoe Lake was a beautiful place to camp for a night. The area is popular with OHV’s and you will pass multiple staging areas on the drive up as well as many others camping along the way up to the campground. It’s a ~10 mile drive on a well maintained gravel road that is accessible from I-90 by taking either exit 241 or 233 (we're driving cross country so it was important to find some place that was easy to get to yet far enough away to feel like we were out in nature). There are two camping loops as well as a day use area. Sites cost $5/night plus $3 for any additional vehicles (we had 2 cars so it was $8 for the night). Sites include a picnic table and fire ring, and there was ample firewood left by others for us to use. Pit toilets are also available. We were here in late July and there were a decent amount of mosquitos. Echoing the previous review, there was a fair amount of trash around but it was still a pleasant place to spend the night.

Not what it used to be

I’ve been going to Delmoe since I was a kid. But the energy has changed. Many trees have been removed. People conitinue yo litter campsites and along the shoreline.
