Great location and close to the water.
We love this park because it is kind of remote, but not far from Savannah. It has great trails, a historic site to explore, a nice little on the water bar/grill close by and large, level, FHU camp sites. They have a few sites that are "on the water", but not actually on the water.
The trails are great for hiking but a little rough for street bikes. The fishing pier is great for fishing or just viewing.
The Ft. McAllister historical museum and grounds is very well done and informative.

A favorite favorite!
This one is one of our absolute favorites. The hosts were awesome. The place is separated from the real world by a long causeway in the salt marsh. It had active wildlife like deer, raccoon, armadillo, etc. And it feels so coastal. It’s maybe 45 or so minutes from Savannah too so that’s nice.

Great hidden Gem
this place is really secluded and the sites are big and views everywhere . its off the beaten path but close to Savanna . going back for a week in April .
Bring a bike and a fishing Rod
Great Backcountry spots!
Hiked in with a 5 year old and a 3 year old for an overnighter. Plenty of wood, nice clean site. The trail was easy enough but had a few puddles along the way. We will definitely be back.
So beautiful !
Felt so surrounded by nature while only being 15 minutes from town. Not to far away from Savannah. I don’t remember what spot we stayed at but the spots were very spacious
Fort McAllister
Great history and fort self guided tour. Sites are open but big. Our site 24 was pull through and gigantic. Restaurant/bar nearby that was good. Great park.

Loved it!
Great cell service and clean bathrooms/showers. There were several walking trails by the marsh that were very scenic.

Georgia State Parks Rock
We enjoyed the well-kept campground and explored the civil war fort which inspired discussions of Georgia’s history. Too hot to have an enjoyable hike, though. The park is located close to necessary needs - hardware and grocery stores. Check out Fish Tales on the Ogeechee River just outside the park.

Fun with friends
We stayed here in Mid April. The campground is very spacious. Very quiet. Bugs were a little bit of an issue. Wildlife are very friendly.

Beautiful Well-maintained Park
We tent-camped here in May on our way north on I-95 to visit relatives. We had not been camping for 30 years before this trip, and I am glad our first experience was in this wonderful place. We had site 2, an RV site with a great view just across from the very friendly and helpful camp hosts. We got an RV site to charge the car overnight. The restrooms and showers were very clean and well-kept. There were deer and raccoons all around the campsite. I want to come back and spend several days at the park, when we are not pressed for time.

Fort McAllister in the fall
We love Fort McAllister and have been here several times. This time we were in ADA site 1 (which was the only available site when we booked). This site is right across from a bathhouse in about the middle of the campground. The bathrooms here are all private and clean. This campground is great because it is right on the Ogeechee river and there is actually a dock to fish from and to tie up your boat if you bring one. There is also a boat ramp and area for trailer parking. The wildlife in this park are one of the best things about it because deer and raccoons just walk right through the sites. There are also lots of squirrels and armadillos to be seen. Additionally this park has a museum and is at the location of a Civil War Fort which can be toured. I’m addition to campsites there are also some very nice cottages available for rent.

Fun for the family, 4.5
Stayed in campsite 13, which was a pull through which faced some trees and the marsh. The roads are a little tight, which seems par for the course at the state parks. Despite colder than average temperatures (well, it was December) and rain, we had a good time. There is a 0.9 mile walking trail at the campground that was nice and flat with views of the marsh, and a boat ramp. We saw some deer and a racoon. The restrooms were clean. The other attractions of the park are about a mile away near the front of the park. My kids enjoyed the playground, but I wish there was one at the campground. That was my one complaint about the campground itself. But, they appear to be building what might be a playground near the boat ramp. Redbird Creek Trail is a flat hiking and biking trail about 3 miles and quiet muddy in the rain. It was nice and well kept. We enjoyed the fort, which is an additional fee. Because there are other state historic sites in Savannah, we went ahead and bought the family annual pass which will paid for itself when we visited Wormsloe Historic site in Savannah and will be using again in the near future. One thing that I didn't really realize was that despite being physically near Savannah, because of the rivers, you have to drive about 40 minutes+ for attractions in Savannah. Just something to keep in mind. Overall a great trip.
Beautiful Spots on an Island
Beautiful spots on which I believe is considered an island. Wild life is everywhere!
We’ve seen deer everywhere who will walk right up to your camper. Campsites have electric and water and from what I can see are all pull-through and level sites.
My one negative review are the provided showers. The shower heads are low, and more of a stream like a hose. The bathrooms do seem to be cleaned regularly, but mud gets tracked in immediately on the mopped floors. The water was hot! So that’s a plus. I think I’ll shower in the camper next time.

Beautiful sunsets!
We are a big rig, a 44' fifth wheel and longer with a hydraulic motorcycle lift on the back. We were able to fit into the state park. In our two years of full-timing, it's the first time we've even tried. Yes, some of the roads are tight, but I'm confident we'll be able to get out just as easily.
Staff was very friendly. The gift shop has some really cute / neat stuff in it. They even have a little museum to walk through (for a small cost), which we haven't done yet. (Arrived about 4, closes at 5pm (at least on Sunday.))
Site has a firepit, and it's a large pull through(those side pull throughs off the main road). Great water pressure. AT&T connection, 68ms ping, 18.46 down, 5.81 up. Good enough for my work.
Highly recommend Fish Tales restaurant, which you'll pass on the way in. There's a Publix just a few miles away for groceries. Pretty good wine selection! Even a small, but sufficient, liquor store next door.

One of our favorites
We love this camp ground! The sites are large and well kept. We enjoyed going to the fort and biking around.
Ga St Park
This is a beautiful State Park a lot of pull thru sites.
Unexpectedly Great
There is a separate loop for tenters, which is always 👍🏻👍🏻!
The weekend I was here, everything was nice and mellow, with only about 70% of the tent campsites taken.
The evenings/ nights are really filled with wildlife activity: deer, raccoons, armadillo.
I would highly suggest renting a kayak for an afternoon from the visitor center.
The bathrooms were obviously cleaned each day, which was great, and I always just appreciate having showers in general!

Beautiful and serene
As far as state campgrounds go, this is a beautiful one. Quiet and the river backing up to it. Not launches, kayaks and canoe rentals, the even offer life jackets for you to borrow right at the lunch site. The deer walked right up to the camp sites. Plenty of shade and peaceful just to rest and relax. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is because the laundry equipment was broken. We are full time campers so this was a small inconvenience for us. Just make sure you bring plenty of clothes.
Great spot!
We had a great time here, there is something for everyone! Nature walks, fishing, a playground, an old civil war mound fort! The deer didn’t seem to be that afraid of people anymore and they came straight through our campground. Toilets/showers were clean and staff was friendly and informative.

Beautiful historic park
Awesome historic site. Large, open sites. Some with 50amp.
Nice campground
This was a nice location for us. There were a few things to do In the campground like hiking on short trails, visiting the fort, fishing. Definitely bring bikes (or rent them at the store) as there is a causeway from the campground to store/fort that is kind of long if you are waking back and forth. Facilities were nice and clean.
Biting bugs
We were there in April and there was a ton of gnats that would swarm the RV and the bite! It was cool to see the Civil War stuff but it does have a separate fee. We also had an issue with the site numbered strange and had to move. The section we were in the sites hadn’t been mapped out yet.
Busy, for a good reason
Even in winter, Fort McCallister campground was nearly full and for the most part with large, really large and really, really large RVs.
With spacious sites the campground looked like a city for all the metal and the assorted camping accoutrements that vacationers brought with them; screened-in porches, mood lights, freestanding canopies. At first, this made us worry about raucous evenings round the campfire but the campers were quiet and polite and our fears were unfounded.
Fort Mccallister is a clean, well-tended park with lots of things to do, fishing, boating (including kayaking) biking, hiking and exploring the adjacent Fort Mccallister historical civil war site. (Note: admission to the fort is pricey and not included in camp fee, but still worth visiting.) There is a playground.
Sites are level and have water and electric hookups. Many are shaded by pines and Spanish moss creates an atmospheric touch. Sites do not view the river, but it is a close walk to get to. A dump station is at the camp exit. Bathrooms are immaculate including 2 showers for each gender, and heated during winter. A laundromat is also on premises as is a small book exchange by the boat dock. A second bathroom serves the tent sites.

Excellent place to stay
Sites are clean large and private. The views are great and the staff is outstanding
Words just can't describe
But I'll do my best.. This was my wife's first time ever camping in her entire life and she was very hesitant to camping period let alone in a tent ⛺, also this was our sons first time camping at 20 months old and the atmosphere at the park was perfect, safe, beautiful, and relaxing, all the accommodations as far as showers laundry mat and utilities where all very clean and easily accessed. We will definetly be back!!
Beautiful and Quiet
Fort McAllister has a little bit of everything. You get the history, 4 miles of hiking trails, the river, and camping! The campground is quiet and the campsites are nicely spaced. Water and electric is available as well as restrooms and showers. You can purchase firewood on site for your campfires. There’s pull through sites for trailers/RV’s as well as tent only sites. You can rent kayaks at the boat dock if you’d like. I had plenty of cell reception (Verizon) and the staff in the office were very nice. Site 16 was huge with water and electric. Plenty of trees for hammocks which I love :) The trail to the lookout tower was closed when i visited in Dec 2020 but it was still a nice experience and that just means I have to come back and visit again!

Quiet, friendly, flat, nice pull thru, clean bathroom, boat dock great
Campsite 14 faces road so less privacy but campground was nice and clean. Showers were clean and warm and family oriented. Boat dock area has couple bench swings that were wonderful relaxing. Deer came close at night.
Love this place!
Didn’t take the history tour, but loved the southern charm and wildlife throughout the campground. We rode our bikes all over but the most enjoyable ride was the mile of causeway through the salt marshes. Campsite was level and the grounds were full but quiet. The only wifi was at the office/museum, so we would ride there on bikes and sit on the porch watching the visitors and taking care of business. We were visited by a snake and cute little gecko. Wishing we could have stayed much longer.

Beautiful Park
We really loved this park. Do not leave any food or your cooler out. We had visits from deer everyday. The campground is at the back of this park and Sonia the boat launch. We put our kayaks in and went paddling up the salt marshes. Very peaceful day. Be sure to visit the fort. It is very cool to walk around and see the underground bunkers. So much history here I never knew about.

Great campsite
Really nice campground. Great hikes. Very close to a Publix and two convenience stores. My kids loved the playground and the fort tour!!
