Lovely little campground just off the Interstate

We spent a night here and were very pleasantly surprised by the facilities and the warm welcome from the staff.  The campsites are small in size, but very clean.  The creek running through the campground is beautiful.  We would cheerfully stop in again.  Very nice looking little cabins are available should you have forgotten your camping equipment.  But they do ask you to bring your own linens!

Wonderful campground with lovely staff, trees and creek!

Let's shout it from the rooftops this place is Amazing! Nestled in a fabulous forested valley in Newcastle. Far enough away from the bustle of the city and the sounds of traffic and highway. Yet close enough for all your adventurous wants and needs! The creek that runs thru the campground is a pure delight to dip and play in. Whether you select a riverside site or not the creek is accessible to all visitors! It's been a blessing to call this place home for the time we are allowed! Thank you Elk Creek Campground for all the amazing support and help you provided! Shane, Lisa, Steven, Mark, LOGAN, Terry and Tom, thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into this glorious place!

Beautiful scenes

Our campsite was in the middle of the loop. The campsite was a little overgrown but very spacious. Our campsite was near the restrooms. They were vault toilets but very clean. It’s tucked into the Rio Grande National Forest (no cell service at all in the forest) and there are streams going through the campground. Light pollution is low there so it was perfect for star gazing. Sites were labeled and had my reservation info on the sign. Overall, it was a great campground. We did forget about how cold it can get in the mountains so we woke up freezing and left early. Bring everything you need because it’s a long drive to re-up on supplies.

Best Place to Stay In West Colorado

Amazing campground with three sections. Full rv hookups, multiple tent/small camper site, and also primitive camping in a separate spot deeper in the trees. All of the spots other than primitive, have water and electricity. The bathrooms have multiple showers and toilets that are cleaned daily. The owner, Beau, is incredible and will go above and beyond. (I joked about getting a fancy shower head for one of the showers, the next day he had installed one of those jet powered massaging setups). Multiple lakes in the immediate area with great fishing in some of the most clear water you have ever seen. A stream surrounds the place with frequent large trout. Hands down the best play to stay in this area.

Great campground but TOO TOO many mosquitoes!

This is a great campground, very clean, nicely spaced out sites, good number of rest rooms, level sites, near the Elk Creek river. However the mosquitoes were many. We are tent campers and found it impossible to be outside the tent without a lot of serious bug spray on. We tried the herbal bug spray but it was useless. We had to use Off and a lot of it any time we were outside the tent. We were even getting bites through our long sleeve shirts and long pants. We were here only once in mid-June. Maybe the mosquitoes are less at other times of the year but sadly we decided not to return, the mosquitoes made it very uncomfortable.

Beautiful, serene camping along creek (with new owners)

Not your typical asphalt RV parking lot. Rarely can you find a full hookup site in a natural setting along a roaring creek. The park has a variety of accommodations with full hookup sites, a “tent” section with electricity (lovely for small RVS as well) and log cabins. Many of the sites are along the creek as it meanders through the camp.

Location is great as well. Easy drive from I-70 but far enough to be out of town. Also a quick drive into Glenwood Springs.

New owners purchased park in April 2021 and are improving facilities while maintaining the natural feel. Check-in was easy even without reservations. The new owners are very friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely perfect!

We are on a road trip back home to MN and stopped here to camp on a whim.. $35 and we have an amazing campsite next to the river, firewood, all the accommodations you would need while camping and more!

The people here are so kind.

Highly highly recommend!

Hidden gem, close to creek

This was a great find a few miles off Interstate 70.  The site we had was as close to the creek one could get and we enjoyed sitting out listening to the flowing water.

The camp managers, Dawn and Earl, went the extra mile to make our week enjoyable and checked in on us daily to see if we needed firewood or anything else.

They offer full hook ups, cabins, tent sites.  Small store on site with limited supply of camping goods.

Glenwood Springs is nearby.  Also not far to see some amazing water falls at Rifle Falls State Park.

No Longer a KOA

This campground is no longer a KOA and I believe it is now called “Elk Creek campground”.

The campground is a ways off i70 near a quaint little town called New Castle. The spots themselves are all near the river and in the trees. It has a very forest feel to it.

The amenities are all old but clean and the people were friendly. Great place to be if you want to be near Glenwood or Rifle!
