Great Location

Great Campground with all the amenities. Sites are fairly close together, but not a problem for me. Everything is exceptionally clean. You must check in before 6pm. Downtown Colorado Springs is minutes away and close to attractions. Plus you can take advantage of on base shopping and more.

Quiet and beautiful escape

Very nice and quiet campground with full hookups at all sites, as well as, a picnic table. We had a great time and enjoyed the scenery, we felt like we got lucky with space having an end space but most sites were pretty close together and felt like they were right up on top of one another.

Very nice

Stayed for 7 nights.  Beautiful weather.  Had a football game while we were there. Air Force won.  Sites were very spacious.  Full hookups.  Met some nice people and some very rude people who would not control their dog.

Took a ride up to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods was close by and just tooling around the area was awe inspiring

Loved this stop

Best campground ever!

Loved this place! It’s convenient to lots of attractions in the area, as well as clean, quiet, and secure. The camp staff is wonderful. We were only supposed to stay a couple of nights, but my husband ended up in the hospital, and the camp extended our stay until he was discharged. They were so understanding and helpful! We really appreciated their hospitality!

Nice family camping

This place has all the necessities and so many extra curricular activities for kids. Playground, beach volleyball, tetherball, frisbees golf, basketball hoop and outdoor laser tag which was SO FUN for my son. Showers and bathrooms. I heard a few people with larger rigs that weren’t fans of “ all the trees” but I thought it’s was wonderfully shaded!

Very Beautiful and Well Managed

The sites are surrounded by beautiful trees and well maintained. The staff is very helpful and work hard to keep the facility looking great. The only negative is the coal trains that blow their loud horns early in the morning.

Great Military Community

I live in the area and like to get away in TMee (our LTV UFX) on the weekends. Unfortunately, I had some electrical issues and two retired 4Ns (medics) came by to help me diagnose the issue. While the patient remained on life support, we had a great time discussing our Leisure Travel Vans and the beauty of the RV life. The area has nice spots, plenty of space between each site, lots of space to walk, run, play. Maggie and I had an incredible time despite the electrical issues my TMee had.

First campsite in our new class c

DAV 0-100% service connected are allowed to camp here beginning 1.1.2020. I took my family of six. The full bike rack tipped off the host that there was more than just me. She explained that each family member had to be sponsored. I entered in the north gate where the SP waived me through. The visitor center is on the South gate. If you have family, go through the south gate. Luckily, the host didn't require me to go back. The host held a mobile happy hour with frozen margherita, daiquiris, ice cream, and candy using a modified Aliner. The lots are wooded, lots of shade, have a picnic bench, a charcoal grill, and are well maintained. The roads are gravel so, the kids couldn't use their scooters. A railroad is close by so, there was a lot of noise at 2AM on one evening. The BX and class 6 shoppette is a drive away. Due to COVID-19, the host shop sells nothing but happy hour drinks and ice cream. Overall, this was a very nice campground with nice people. We will go there again.

Great little family campground.

Have stayed here three times when the In-Laws are in town and always love the quiet spaces with heavy trees.

Although military access is required, this little gem is great for quick getaways from the city that has that out of town feel.

Upon check-in, there are two loops that have access for 30+ Ft RV's and a nice little store for limited items, such as ice.  Camp hosts were very friendly and welcoming to any questions.

Several walking trails that start at campground access with beautiful views of the AF Academy. The wildlife is abundant with many black squirrels and a ton of black bears.

Each site is manicured with some pull-thru and back in.  Small chat rock is used for each site with large railroad ties marking the parking site for your RV or tent. Water pressure here is really strong so make sure you have a water pressure regulator handy.

There is a new playground that is huge for the kids with a rubber floor in case kids fall. In addition to the park there is tetherballs and open fields for fun ball or frisbee activities.

Bathroom and Showers are kept very clean with plenty of shower stalls.

Very close to city

5 minute drive to restraunts and stores. Quiet campground. Clean. Well maintained group areas/picnic areas. Only DoD ID card holders can use it, so there is not as much noise and partiers.

Ranger Review: Gregory Avos 15 pack at Peregrine Pines military campground

Campground Review

Note: This is a military campground only, on the grounds of the US Air Force Academy just north of Colorado Springs, CO.

My family and I stayed here a week in a 34' travel trailer.  This is a large facility with over 100 campsites. Sites are gravel and fairly level, spaced decently with little undergrowth among the pine trees. Full hook-ups are of good quality and worked with no problems. Cable is not provided and we did not check to see if our antennae picked up any local TV stations. WiFi is restricted to the office and bathhouses, and do not extend into the campground. You have the option of purchasing a MiFi transmitter for $5 a day or $25 a week, but we did not choose this option. A short walk from our campsite is a very nice playground next to the picnic pavilions. Each site comes with a grill and aluminum picnic table. Ground fires are not allowed, but fire pits can be rented for an additional fee. The laundry facility is affordable and the machines are in good condition. Now for a little bit about the area outside the campground. The Academy grounds are huge. It is a good 10-minute drive to the commissary/exchange, a 10-minute drive to the visitor center, and about 30 minutes to downtown Colorado Springs or Garden of the Gods. If you are here for football, the stadium is right down the street (I would say it is within walking distance).  There is a lot to do around here and this is a good base camp. I wish we could have stayed longer than a week.

Oh, and just a heads up, if you are staying here in the summer expect thunderstorms to roll by every day.  The wind and lightning can be rather intense.

Product review

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to test from time to time. This week I tested the Gregory Avos 15 pack. Although designed as a mtn biking pack, I used it for day hiking and road cycling and found it to be a great and versatile pack.  See the video and pictures for more details, but here's a quick review of the pros:

  • The numerous storage spaces, crash pad for a phone/glasses, and a separate bag for repair tools that can be clipped inside the pocket.
  • The feel of the fit and adjustability of straps and back length.
  • The size of the hydration bladder.
  • The convenience of the bite valve.

After hiking 6 miles and riding 10 miles, I have very few negatives, and these are just me being picky:

  • The magnetic connection for the chest strap is challenging to remove with one hand.
  • The length of the hydration hose could be a little longer so I could loosen the chest strap without it pulling on the hose (I have wide shoulders).
  • The hydration bladder itself is difficult to drain completely when trying to dry it out.

Overall, I would give this pack a 5-star review and recommend it to others who want a comfortable, well-designed, and versatile pack when playing outdoors.

Awesome FamCamp

Our third time staying here. Opinion - best FamCamp in the system. Love the ability to base from here in the Colorado Springs area and branch out for all adventures you can imagine.

Campground is clean. Friendly staff. Level spots. Though not exactly private, plenty of pine trees to make you feel you are in the woods. City water was clean/no smell/good pressure, though paperwork says a regulator is mandatory.

Down side = the routinely travelled train tracks with mandatory horns. Regardless, we would return without question.

Good place to stay

No public wifi, you need a cell phone(hotspot), or rent a 5 GB mifi from them! This is the only bad thing i have to say about the FamCamp.

Great Place!

We stayed here for 6 nights in March. One night we got snowed in and another night we slept with open windows! 😂

Beautiful scenery, neat atmosphere. You do have to be active or retired military to stay here, or have a sponsor with you.

Bathrooms were clean hot showers. Decent sized laundromat. A lot of full timers there when we were there so we were a little bit of the “odd man out” but I imagine the summer crowd is different!

rated 4 stars because there were no campfire pits, it wasn’t really a huge deal but it would have been nice.
