Sequoia National Forest Hume Lake Campground

We actually used the new Dyrt Alerts feature to snag this spot and it was awesome! Campsites are spread out nicely, access to bear boxes, dumpsters, and bathrooms are easy. There is 0 cell service at this site, I only had access to WiFi at Grant Welcome center, about 20 min away. You can also walk over to Hume Christian camp and pay $20 a day to hop onto theirs if you really need it. The camp hosts did have phones if there was emergency. The ground was really level for our van and tent. Also, shout out to our hosts for being great! They welcomed us, went over all the rules, and let us know there was an active bear in the area and what we needed to know about it. (We did hear the bear 3/5 nights) Make sure you store ALL food and coolers in the bear box and latch the dumpsters back and you’ll be just fine! The hiking and swimming around Hume Lake was great but this site was also easy driving distance to Grant Tree and General Sherman hikes a little further south. We went in August and it was perfectly warm during the day, not too hot (76) and cold at night (55). We did have a summer thunderstorm pop up so always be ready to switch gears and have some extra clothes! All in all a great spot and would be happy to stay here again.

Ever since staying in Hume Lake I’ve wanted to go back! Our spot was private enough, at least it felt like it being so close to the lake and amongst the trees. We really enjoyed getting coffee at the Christian Camp in the mornings! We were easily able to drive everywhere in the park we wanted to go. Seeing the Milky Way through the giant trees from just outside our tent was a wonder! The lake was gorgeous and we ended up spending a lot of time there.

We dispersed camped a few hundred feet from the lake Hume trail head and it was an amazing experience. Watching the Sun rise over the lake was unforgettable and we were a short walk from the beach. There were cabins across the road which are probably busier during the summer months but we saw few cars and even fewer people. Camp Christian is a few minutes away if you need anything from the market or a proper bathroom.

Absolutely wonderful place filled with great people! The lake is beautiful and absolutely worth dipping into! The security at the lake is also very helpful and actually made our experience over the top!

What I love about Hume is the classic vibe. There is a little burger/shake shack by a lake with recreational activities. The weather is nice and elevation provides beautiful star gazing.

This is a beautiful place to camp with great trout fishing. Has a nice beach area on the lake for swimming

Only had a one night stay here prior to completing Rae Lakes Loop in King’s Canyon and got a first come first served spot. Parking at this site was crap and space for rent was limited but we were just happy to have scored a spot to rest before our backpack. Bear boxes available for each site. The lake was amazing and loads of families and kids frolicking around. Would love to go back and experience a few days at this lake and a more spacious and carefully chosen campsite.

Located in the Sequoia National Forrest, this campground has a lot to offer.  Very close to Lake Hume (swimming, non-motorized boats, fishing), spacious sites, clean restrooms (no showers, no soap).  No WIFI or cell service at the actual campground, some service near the lake if you are by the Christain Camp (also, decent coffee and cafe there too!).  I would def return no doubt.  I went on a non-weekend and there was a LARGE (about 15 to 20 people) group that stayed LOUD until 2 am or so, with nothing from the camp host, so an FYI if you like a place that enforces quiet times.  Went in June of 2020 so they weren't selling firewood due to the pandemic, so maybe call ahead or bring your own.  I have also heard that they do not mess around with fire restrictions so campfires can get shut down or prohibited (depending on the temps in the valleys) - just not LOUD groups lol.

We stayed over here one night during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Our site (#54) was next to the water spigot for our loop, which was super convenient, however, it had zero shade cover and was very hot and dusty (again it was the first week of July).

Another issue (especially in the time of COVID) was that our site was within 10' of the other campsite. It was so close that when I was in my tent I was within 6' of the other campers' car. It was not ideal.

That being said, this was by far the quietest campground I've ever stayed in. Despite it being so full for the holiday weekend, you could hear the birds singing and the wind blowing through the trees. It was remarkable!

Additionally, there was a lovely walk down to the lake, the rangers were all super helpful, and this was a great location for us to be able to run to the nearby Hume Lake Christian Camp store for supplies or gas as needed.

This has to be one of my favorite get away locations. The campsites a very spacious. Try to bring all that you need because stores up here are a bit over priced but that is expected. The lake is great for fishing and they plant it many times throughout the year!

Wow, nothing bad to say about this site! Next to the lake and some great trails, an easy car ride to everything else. This was my first time in the Sequoia’s and we stayed for 4 days in mid-July. The weather was perfect! I can’t remember it being too buggy even being so close to water.

This is a very popular campsite, so it fills up quick, and gets crowded. But if you go in early/mid May, before the weather shapes up, you can have the feeling of having the whole lake to yourself. Just be ready for some cold nights!

Camp sites are at the furthest 3 minute walk to the water. Flushing toilets and sinks to wash hands. Plenty of water faucets located around the camp ground for non drinking water (although I was told by a campground employee the water was tested monthly by the county and was super clean and great for drinking water).

I have camped here most of my childhood it was our favorite place to go. It can be really tough to get a reservation so you need to plan ahead if you are coming in the summer. My favorite time to visit is in late May early June. It’s not to hot and the Christian camp across the lake isn’t completely packed yet. The lake has been pretty low the past 5 years. Hopefully that will change. The sandy beach across from camp is a blast we would swim across or boat across and spend all afternoon climbing the log that has been floating in that lake for 30 plus years. Bathrooms are nice and well kept. And plenty of things to drive and see through Sequoia kings canyon.

Really nice get away. Less crowded than sequoia NP. Spent the day at the lake nice fishing went in the summer and it was really warm the whole time. Sites were clean and drive in. Tables, fire pit and bear canisters on site

This is a great campground. The sites are easy to get into and park. You usually have a lot of room to yourself. There are lots of trees for shade at camp. The lake is (generally) a short walk from camp. And you can even hike down the lake for 1/2 mile to the Hume Lake Christian Camp, where they have a visitor center, kayaks for rent, and even a general store with lots of food and supply options.

This is one of my favorite car camping sites, and I'd recommend it to everyone.

the lake is beautiful and there is a Christian campground across the lake that has a rental place for paddle boarding canoeing and more. there is also a convenience store near the rental store. the walk from camp to the lake is not far and the Christian camp ground is not loud or disruptive at all. just careful there are bear sitings here.

Dogs barks, kids screaming and bears a roaming. Not my cup of tea, but it was only for 1 night. I don’t think I slept a wink while staying here. I don’t mind talking but there was barking and yelling until early in the morning. Campsites without any privacy.

Just a quick 40 minutes from our previous night at Stony Creek, the site is lower elevation and a good bit warmer which was nice. The campground itself is fairly small but spacing between sites is pretty far so liked that a lot. The area surrounding the site has been hit hard with trees being cut down so expect it to look like a lumber site. I'm sure there was a reason they were cut down. The plus to that though is it's free wood for the taking and the camp host said help yourself so campfire jackpot. It's just a 20 minute walk to the lake but we drove down with the paddle boards and took them out. The lake is gorgeous!! Almost nobody on it and relatively warm and clear. Perfect for paddle boards or kayak or canoe. Got to paddle surrounded by a snow capped peak off in the horizon. Pretty neat. The campground itself is pretty standard but if you're there for the lake it's a great one or two nighter.

Great campsites right on the water! The lake is pretty small but there is a lot of sandy beach access right near the campsites. Fishing has been pretty good every time I go here. It is only about a 30 minute drive up to the Kings Canyon National Park Visitor Center and all of the amenities offered in Grant Grove, including the General Grant Tree. Great spot overall, definitely feels like a national park.
