Bikes, birds, beach...a blast!

We stayed in 134, right on the sand. Our 27' trailer (with butt over sand, incredibly) and full-size truck fit comfortably in our spot, and several folks with fifth wheels also looked to have plenty of room. With 50 amp electric and a daily pump truck for $20 (they literally suck your tanks into theirs), you basically have full hookups. For the price, I can't imagine it gets any better.

The campground itself is, if you look in one direction, a parking lot. Look the other way and you're on the same beach Navy SEALs train on. Mostly families out here having a good time.

Location is great for biking, with a separated trail that runs the strand all the way down to Imperial Beach and to ritzy Coronado. Driving into San Diego proper isn't too bad, as long as you don't mind Southern California driving in general.

One thing to watch out for: Thanks to rain, several beachside sites were getting taken over by sand. One family spent about two hours digging themselves enough room for backing into.

Excellent beach campground

Can’t beat the proximity to the beach! Spots next to the road are loud and the campground is busy with small parking lot style areas, but if you can get a spot backing on to the beach, A+. Nice proximity to San Diego attractions as well. Would stay here again.

Camping beachside

Camped overnight here. Sights are easy to find..clearly marked. The camp hosts were very nice and gave clear directions and informative rules handout. Sites are for self contained RV no tent camping. Sites are all on asphalt so it’s kinda like a parking lot, sites are close together but I didn’t feel like we lacked privacy. Everyone was very considerate, if music was played it was pretty low and off by quiet time at 10pm. Only thing was fire pits not provided so bring your own and keep it in your site no fire on the sand. No sewer at site and they charge $10 for a timed dump…not thrilled with that.

No Tent Camping

There has never been tent camping allowed here. There is RV or trailer camping but no tent and no bathrooms here.   Make sure you check the water quality since it can be an issue at times since it is near the Mexico border.

Beautiful Beach, OK Camping

We had a good experience, just don’t expect too much. No hot showers, beach bathrooms and you’re in a parking lot. We had no issues with the camp host or State staff, in fact they were helpful. Other campers were respectful and friendly. What you get is a great big beautiful beach!

Do not park in any of the 400 section.

Of course being right next to the beach is amazing. At night you can hear the ocean. If you park in the 400 section the only thing you were here is traffic and it's maddening! The 400 or closest to the main road. It's basically a freeway. You can hear the cars throughout the day and no matter where you park, but they are absolutely terrible if you're in the 4's. Those Spot shouldn't cost more than $20 and I still wouldn't pay $20 to stay there!

100s are unbeatable

WE LOVE SILVER STRAND! One of the best beach camp grounds probably in CA. It’s trailer/rv camping only in the north and south sections. If you’re lucky enough to get a spot in the 100s you park right on the sand essentially. 200s are the next best, only separated by a street. 300s but up behind 200s and 400s are behind the 300s separated by a street and have the highway behind them. 3/4 stars only because other than the gorgeous ocean- there’s nothing else “to do” like hikes etc unless you cross the highway and you can bike/walk the sidewalk and head into town/ Hotel Del Coronado. Lots of kids and families bike and ride within the loops. No curfew that I’m aware of so occasionally it can be loud at night (if you have little ones).

Sleep to the sound of the waves

Beautiful coastal beach location. Dolphins played off shore each morning. The beach sand 2as very clean and not littered. On the sand rv camping with water and electricity. No sewer hook ups! But a pumper truck comes through every morning and you can get your tanks emptied for $20. Awesome west facing view for beautiful sunsets. 5 mile bike ride to the Hotel Del Coronado.

Great place if you want to be on the beach

This is our go-to spot when we want to camp as close to the beach as possible. Yes, the spots are close together, but you can see and hear the waves crashing on the beach and, if you get in the front row, your back tires abut the sand. One of our favorite places in San Diego.

A favorite

Most of my childhood we camped at silver strand. Going back by myself was so amazing. Although the water isn’t great being right next to Mexico, everything else is perfect!

It's a parking lot with water and power

If you find yourself in an RV in the San Diego area and want to be beach-side, this is an affordable option. Other than being close to the beach, there is really nothing more to recommend. It is a bit like camping at Walmart with 200 of your not-best-friends. Sites are pretty tight and there are a ton of longer-stay visitors with Class A RVs and large trailers with slide-outs. Apparently everyone needed to have a fire in the 85 degree heat as well, and we had to button the van up for fear of suffocation. For some reason there seemed to be a constant bike parade riding the circumference of the park for most of the night, and you had your usual drink too much and watch TV outside crew as well.

Perfect for watching the bioluminecent algae!

Took the family out here to check out the blue glowing algae and they loved it. Went swimming a few other times. Can see some dolphins in the water and it has some great shells along the beach!

Beautiful beach!

One of our favorite spots because you are right on the ocean! However the spots are very tight and it’s always busy. They also lock you in the campground at 8 pm. That makes it difficult to go out at night. Well, impossible. The bike paths and beach will keep you busy!

Our favorite beach

Silver Strand is set in the perfect spot: halfway between Coronado and Imperial beach. The bike path is amazing and you can go under the road to the bay to enjoy kayaking or SUP. The beach is great but in the spring we always see signs telling us to stay out of the contaminated water. So be careful. The signs disappear in the summer. The sites are tight. If you have a larger camper you need the first or fourth row!
