Canyon Vista Campground is located near Walnut Canyon and Lower Lake Mary. This area consists of ponderosa pine, mixed conifer, aspen and oak, which offer good photo opportunities, interesting geology and views of the San Francisco Peaks. The trailhead for Sandys Canyon Trail and the Vista Loop Trail are at the north end of the campground. Sandys Canyon Trail provides access into Walnut Canyon and joins the Arizona Trail. Little Elden Springs Horse Camp is a campground that was created for those who love horses and enjoy riding in a beautiful landscape. Located in the Coconino National Forest of northern Arizona, the campground offers opportunities for horseback riding, hiking and wildlife viewing. The facility is very accommodating to campers and their horses and including hitching posts, plenty of space for horse trailers and access to over 30 miles of trails.
Campers can access the Kachina Peaks Wilderness at the Weatherford Trail near Schultz Tank just up the road from the campground. The campground lies near the base of Mount Elden in a lush ponderosa pine and gamble oak forest and has a view of the 12,000-ft. San Francisco Peaks. Fall foliage can be outstanding and very inviting for photography. There is a healthy population of mule deer and elk in the area that can be fun to watch and photograph when sighted. Summers are very pleasant with sunny skies, high temperatures in the 60s to 80s and occasional afternoon thunderstorms.

We are not a traditional campground. We are a gorgeous pine tree 3 acre homestead that we are opening up for campers. Our mission is to make camping simple and affordable for those wanting to check out beautiful Flagstaff but not have to purchase all the gear. Get the kids out of the house and off the phones... all you need is your clothes, overnight bag, and food/drinks.
We rent 2 RVs and can set up tents for those that would like to experience tent camping. The RVs are approx. 30 ft with slide and fully equipped with bedding, towels, dishes, pots/pans, and coffee maker. The RVs are spaced far apart so more privacy and quiet. Please note: we are currently not set up for you to bring along your own RV.
We are also offering open air corral panel stalls for those who want to bring their horses. Pets welcome (must be well behaved). Availability is limited since we only have 2 units and a few tents, so book now to reserve. We are in a fabulous location close to town and all that Flagstaff has to offer, but set in the trees for the tranquility and pines.

The first two miles follows an old road bed, that is fairly flat and easy going. The rest of the way, the trail meanders in and out of the canyon bottom. Vegetation varies from chaparral to mixed conifer along this typically dry water course.
The signed trailhead is across the usually dry streambed of Dry Creek west of the parking area. The trail immediately enters Wilderness. The wide, nearly flat trail leads into the wide canyon mouth with nice views, but no shade from the desert scrub vegetation. At 2/3 mile, HS Canyon Trail branches off to the left. Continue ahead for Secret Canyon. At 2 miles, continue ahead (west) as the trail drops down to cross a drainage. It climbs gently for the next 3 miles beside the canyon drainage, frequently dipping down to cross it.
There is shade from oak and ponderosa and nice views of red rock formations. At 5 miles, the streambed turns sharply left a short distance to an interesting "chute". Return to the trail which continues ahead, climbs sharply, then levels out. At 5.5 miles, there is a deep ravine and a series of pools in the solid rock streambed. An unmaintained trail continues on. Return by the same route for an 11 mile hike. The entire length of this hike is enjoyable and rewarding, so hike as much or as little as you'd like for the day. The trail can be very hot in summer.
