Miller Lake dispersed

Fishing and lake access draw visitors to Miller Lake dispersed, a free camping area within Medicine Bow National Forest that sits adjacent to a small mountain lake. The US Forest Service manages this former developed campground, which now operates as dispersed camping with remnants of its previous infrastructure still visible.

Campers can access the area via approximately three miles of dirt road that most vehicles can navigate, according to visitor reports. The lake provides fishing opportunities, though recent reviews note water quality concerns that may affect both fishing and swimming safety. Evidence of past wildfire activity is apparent throughout the area, with many trees showing scorch marks and cleared sections creating more open camping spaces than typical forest settings.

Iris K. found "a good level of seclusion" despite occasional ATV and truck traffic. Vault toilets remain from the original campground development, though campers should bring their own supplies. Sites with existing fire rings offer the clearest setup areas, while older sites have become overgrown and less suitable for tents.

Grazing cattle use the area seasonally, which can create odor and waste issues during certain times of year. RVs up to 25 feet can access the campground, and both campfires and pets are permitted under forest service regulations.

A beautiful lakeside spot with good privacy and peaceful surroundings, though visitors should expect grown-over sites and significant cow manure issues that may impact comfort.

Great for a one nighter

Beautiful old abandoned campground! There are cows and unfortunately the water near by has some issues with it. However this area is beautiful and I always look forward to camping here

Early Season Overnight

Spent a quick afternoon through morning at the site. We were able to find a pretty clear spot with a fire pit to set up, but most of the old sites are grown over and too cramped for tent camping. The vault toilets are still there, so if you bring your own TP and hand sanitizer, it can be pretty nice. There was hardly any traffic—just a couple ATVs and trucks in the early evening. The area is pretty wooded, but plenty of clear skies due to the wildfire from a couple years ago. The lake is a short walk away, but probably not safe to swim due to what looks like high amounts of HCB. Same goes for fishing. There are fish present, but they’re pretty skittish and probably not super safe to eat. Still, very beautiful area with a good level of seclusion.

Peaceful and not very crowded when i went

Very peaceful campground, right by a lake with a nice view. People came and went throughout the day to go fishing at the lake and some with ATVs.

During the night there was only one other group of campers but its a fairly large campground with plenty of spots so they were far away. The total amount of offroading is ~3 miles as most of the drive is paved road. The dirt road is well taken care of and almost any car could make it. This area seemed to be part of a wildfire as there are many trees cut down that have scorch marks. The lake is relatively small but theres another body of water just across the far end. I didnt venture over there but youre able to see it across the lake.
