Middle Ridge Campground sits atop a mountain ridge west of Romney, accessible via a winding road that climbs through increasingly narrow curves for the final miles. The campground occupies forested terrain with sites carved into the wooded slopes, each surrounded by trees that provide natural privacy between neighbors.
Campers consistently note the quiet atmosphere here, with many reporting minimal interaction with other guests even during busier periods. The family-owned operation maintains a laid-back environment where donkeys and mules roam the property, often greeting visitors at their sites. Stephen H. found "delivered wood to our site by the time I disconnected," highlighting the attentive service approach.
Full hookup sites accommodate RVs, though access requires careful navigation. The gravel roads within the campground are steep and tight, with reviewers suggesting 36-foot fifth wheels or 34-foot travel trailers as practical size limits. Water pressure runs low at around 20-25 psi, prompting some RV owners to rely on their internal tanks. A swimming pool provides summer recreation, while hiking trails lead down to fishing ponds, though the descent involves a steep walk.
The mountain location affects connectivity, with cell service varying by carrier and satellite internet proving unreliable. Romney lies about four miles east, providing resupply options and access to local farmers markets. The campground operates year-round with reservations available, though the access road's curves and grades demand attention during winter conditions.
For campers preferring easier access, Big Anchor Campground offers an alternative southeast of the area.
