Index Town Wall Parking Area

Rock climbers and van campers gather at this small parking area beside the Skykomish River, just outside Index. The site serves as an overnight staging area for those tackling the granite walls of Index Town Wall, with many visitors setting up tents or sleeping in their vehicles. A few minutes' drive connects campers to Index's general store for supplies.

The Washington Climbers Coalition, American Alpine Club, and state parks jointly maintain this riverside spot. River access allows visitors to rinse off after climbing sessions, though no formal restrooms or water sources exist on-site. The parking area accommodates both tents and vehicles, with most activity centered around climbing groups coming and going throughout the day.

Train noise from nearby tracks punctuates the night, creating what one reviewer called "good noise." Les R. notes "You can rinse off at the river nearby" after climbing sessions. Fire restrictions may apply during dry periods, so checking current burn bans before arrival is essential.
