Cold Creek Campground

Part of Washington State Department of Natural Resources' resource management area, Cold Creek Campground operates as a free drive-in facility with electric hookups for RVs up to 25 feet. The campground sits along a gravel forest road that some visitors say can be challenging to locate due to missing signage, though large trail map displays help mark the general area.

Campers consistently note the campground's secluded atmosphere, with sites positioned down short 30-50 foot paths that provide separation from the main camping area. The facility includes prepared tent sites that reviewers describe as particularly flat and well-suited for ground camping. A camp host operates the site Thursday through Sunday, also managing nearby Rock Creek Campground. Bathroom facilities receive mixed reviews regarding cleanliness.

"Beautiful access to the Belle Mountain trail down to Moulton Falls and lots of swimming," notes BA B.. The campground provides direct trail access to Bells Mountain, Yacolt Burn, and Tarbell trails, with Cold Creek running through the area and featuring a small waterfall. Swimming opportunities exist along the creek system.

The limited size and forest road access mean fewer campers typically use this site compared to more accessible options. For additional choices, see places to camp near Yacolt or Sunset Falls Campground for a different setting.

Visitors often highlighted the campground's thoughtful layout and peaceful seclusion, with many mentioning helpful hosts. Some concerns about occasional noise and cleanliness issues, but most found it a quiet escape.

Less known about

This campground is off of a gravel forest road. Not many know about the campground which means there typically not many others camping there. You almost have the entire campground to yourself.

It’s ok

This used to be one of my goto spots but they don’t have a permanent host and are only open Thursday thru Sunday. The hosts operate rock creek horse camp and this one and are very good people. The campground is especially great for tents as they have flat prepared sites but hold you nose in the bathrooms. Beautiful access to the Belle Mountain trail down to Moulton Falls and lots of swimming. Great place to camp.

Quietude + the "It" Factor

Very close to 5 stars, which I will only give for spectacular locations like the Four Corners area or the Oregon Coast. But Cold Creek is very thoughtfully laid out, within some spectacular scenery and off of some great trails (Bells Mtn., Yacolt Burn, Tarbell… see pics!), + it's a bit of a last option within the Sunset/Rock Creek/Battle Ground Lake quadfecta. That's probably due to its smaller size and an added difficulty in finding. What is does mean is it's extra quiet, this + campsites that are often nicely down or around the bend of 30-50 foot paths, adding to the seclusion and quiet. Helpful, chill camp host mom with a friendly young son, plus a refreshing creek with a small waterfall. She said people take down the Forest Service road signs all the time, though this campground still wasn't hard to find, partly due to the large trail map signs sprinkled throughout the area.
