This free dispersed camping area sits on Bureau of Land Management property accessible via a dirt road that requires careful navigation to the correct turnoff. Multiple campers emphasize turning sharp right at the top of the hill rather than following GPS coordinates to the marked waypoint. The road remains passable for two-wheel drive vehicles in dry conditions, though rangers warn against travel during wet weather when clay surfaces become impassable.
Approximately 20 camping spots spread across the elevated terrain, with several positioned along the rim offering expansive views across the surrounding landscape. The exposed location provides excellent cell service with multiple bars of coverage reported, though wind can be significant on this elevated plateau. Ty P. notes "pretty tight turns between trees further back in the site where the big view is" and warns that "flat ground could be tough to find with a long vehicle or trailer."
Campers consistently report finding solitude despite the number of available sites, though some mention occasional crowding when groups choose adjacent spots rather than spreading out. The area requires a free permit from the visitor center since camping accidentally on adjacent Grand Staircase-Escalante land without permits results in substantial fines. For additional camping options, explore places to camp around Cannonville or check nearby Dispersed Top of Hill, Skutumpah Rd.
Stop at the visitor center first to secure your free permit and get current road condition updates before heading up the hill.
