With 600 sites spread across multiple loops, Isla Blanca Park operates as Cameron County's largest campground on the southern tip of South Padre Island. The park charges $20-$100 per night and accepts reservations, which reviewers consistently recommend for weekend and holiday stays.
Sites vary considerably in condition and amenities. Some feature concrete pads while others remain unpaved, requiring levelers for most RVs. Bret N. notes "site S24 offered much privacy" with water views and natural vegetation, though most sites sit closer together with limited shade. Sticker burrs cover grass areas throughout the park, making closed-toe shoes necessary for walking.
The campground provides direct access to both Gulf beaches and the Laguna Madre bay. Fishing opportunities abound from shore and boat, with a boat launch and parking available on-site. Bret N. describes "top notch fishing, easy access to beautiful beaches and surfing." Campers can view SpaceX's Boca Chica launch facility across the channel. Beach equipment rentals run $30 for umbrellas and chairs, and lifeguards work during summer months.
Check-in procedures can be lengthy, with some reviewers waiting up to an hour during busy periods. The park underwent construction recently, affecting some advertised amenities like boardwalks and shower facilities. Cell service proves spotty for remote workers. Road conditions inside the park need improvement according to multiple reviews. Winter Texans make up a significant portion of long-term guests, creating a more established community feel during cooler months.
Campers seeking a smaller-scale alternative can consider South Padre Island KOA Holiday nearby.
