Crazy Horse Recreational Park

The campground operates two distinct camping areas separated by the Buffalo River, with a "rowdy side" that allows noise until midnight and a family-friendly section across the water with 10 p.m. quiet hours. Crazy Horse Recreational Park functions primarily as a canoe and kayak outfitter, creating a bustling atmosphere during peak boating season that transforms the grounds into a hub of paddling activity.

River access defines much of the camping experience here. Multiple reviewers highlight the abundance of waterfront sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, though Suzsan M. notes that "spots pretty close together" on the electric side lead many campers to choose primitive sites instead. The bathhouse facilities start clean but can deteriorate quickly during busy weekends when kayak renters and campers share the facilities.

Sites include both primitive and hookup options, with electric and water connections available for RVs. Campers can access the grounds by vehicle, boat, or on foot, making it a versatile base for Buffalo River adventures. The campground provides shuttle services for paddlers, and some sites require maintenance with overgrown vegetation noted by recent visitors. For those exploring the broader region, campsites near Waynesboro offer additional options within the Buffalo River corridor.

The setup works well for groups comfortable with a party atmosphere and river-focused recreation, particularly during summer months when the boating operation runs at full capacity.

Party time if you want

Solid private campground. They run a huge boating operation so it’s hella busy on the weekends. We stayed on the rowdy side in a tent with electric. Quiet time was 12am on the rowdy side they do have family oriented camping on the or other side of the river quiet time 10pm. Was a good time meeting some of the local folk. There is a killer BBQ truck there this summer Billy does one hell of a job. The rest rooms were hit or miss depending on what time of day but that shower water was hot. All in all a fun place to spend some time. Would definitely do the boating thing if I wasn’t passing thru.

Camp and Kayak

We love to come here for when we kayak the Buffalo. Plenty of open river front campsites and shuttles to or from the camp (depending on which route you take) The bathrooms start out pretty clean, but can quickly get nasty with the traffic of kayak renters and other campers. Showers also are pretty cold on a weekend night. Some of the sites could use a weed eater, but overall, this is a great place to camp. There is a family side if you prefer a more quiet, kid-friendly atmosphere.

Perfect campground for kayaking the Buffalo

First come first serve sites. Shaded campsites. Electrical available side has spots pretty close together so we always choose to primitive camp here. Water is available as well as clean bathhouses. Love the rental service. Very pretty spot for swimming. If you camp on the campsite on the same side of the road as the outfitter’s ofc, it can turn into a “party” crowd. The family friendly, quiet side is across the river.
