Part of the US Forest Service's El Yunque National Forest, these established campsites provide access to Puerto Rico's only tropical rainforest. The forest requires drive-in or walk-in access depending on the specific site, and pets are not permitted throughout the area.
Campers use this location as a base for day hikes through rainforest trails that connect to waterfalls and elevated viewpoints. Trail conditions can become slippery after rain, as one visitor noted when recommending plenty of water and snacks for full-day excursions. The forest's Coqui frogs provide constant background sounds, and some trails experienced closures following Hurricane Maria damage. For different camping experiences in the region, Hacienda Monte Rey sits 2 miles east of the forest boundary.
