Umatilla Marina and RV ParkPublic

This county-managed RV park sits directly off the freeway with gravel sites that accommodate big rigs year-round. Located within John Day Lock and Dam on Lake Umatilla, the facility provides water, electric hookups, restrooms, and a dump station for overnight travelers. The park maintains green grass areas that require sprinkler systems, so campers need to move gear when watering occurs.

Sites offer level parking on gravel surfaces with views toward the Columbia River, though water access remains limited and swimming is not recommended. Annie B. notes "beautiful sunsets on the river" from the camping area. The marina portion includes boat slips and a parking area for anglers targeting the lake. Staff operates from a small office and can be reached by phone for same-day reservations.

Road noise from the adjacent freeway provides a constant background sound, as one reviewer mentions you "will see it and hear it" from the highway. Cell service works adequately for basic needs, though WiFi connections can drop intermittently. The facility prohibits pets and allows alcohol consumption.

For additional overnight options, campers can explore places to camp around Umatilla. Rates run just over $40 nightly for water and electric sites, making this a practical stopover for travelers needing easy freeway access.

Many visitors appreciated the flat, easy-access sites and friendly staff at this well-maintained marina campground. Families commonly noted kid-friendly activities and hiking, though some reviews mentioned freeway noise and limited internet service.

Passing through

Called last minute and was able to get a water and electric only site which is all we needed. The park is well maintained and it's all gravel. However the sites are all flat and easy to pull into. For just over $40 dollars for the night. I have no complaints. The staff was friendly when I called. It took me a couple times to get a live person. But it's a small office and I'm sure they were busy. I would stay here again. Looks like a great place for boating and fishing with a nice sized parking lot and slips for rent.

Fine for a pit stop

Pretty simple and basic. No big thrills. Quite and filled with friendly people.
It was pleasant to have green grass in late July since I’m used to the crunchy ground of other camp sites by now. Just move your stuff out of the way of the sprinklers!!! We had to do a late night dash outside to rescue books and such! LOL OK view of the Columbia River but no easy access to the water for kids- don’t even attempt to swim here! Fun experience: the field next to the campground set up a outdoor movie night with free popcorn. The kids loved it and it was a great memory maker.

The only annoyance I had was poor internet service: I needed to download more kid shows for the next stretch of our drive and the signal kept dropping.
