Molalla Ripple

The sound of the Molalla River flows past this private campground, though highway noise carries across the water according to recent visitors. Campers access the property via a rough road that leads to sites scattered between open fields and forested areas closer to the riverbank. The facility operates with basic amenities including restrooms, showers, and potable water, with firewood available for purchase on-site.

Site assignments can vary based on availability, with some campers placed in open field areas away from the water when riverfront spots fill up. Scott B. noted being "moved away from the river and into an open field" during a busy period. The campground accommodates various camping styles, from tent camping to van life setups, creating what one reviewer described as a communal atmosphere rather than a secluded experience.

Two private beach areas provide river access for swimming and relaxation during warmer months. Wildlife sounds mix with the constant flow of water, though the nearby highway remains audible throughout most of the property. The facility allows pets and campfires, with picnic tables at each site. Reservations help secure preferred locations, particularly the limited riverfront positions that tend to book first during peak season.

For those exploring the broader region, places to camp around Molalla offer additional options within the Clackamas River valley.

Campers frequently mentioned the beautiful riverside setting and appreciated the attentive host service. However, highway noise and overbooking concerns were notable issues that affected the overall experience.

State Park level camping privacy

While the river is nice, it does little to drown out the sound of the highway, or the sites and sounds of other campers. Those who don’t mind a communal camping experience, but like they have a good time. However, those seeking any sort of natural experience, an opportunity to get away and come with nature will be sorely disappointed.

Shame on The Dyrt and Stan for allowing a review almost nine months later. We strive to make sure every camper enjoys their visit. Now you take the time to review us on the busiest holiday. Have a great time at state parks. We ranked third best place to camp in Oregon two years in a row. We dropped the The Dyrt for the lack of support and bookings.

Space was overbooked

Jim did a great job of communicating and was attentive to all the campers, but they ended up overbooked so we were moved away from the river and into an open field. With no hookups and lacking riverfront, the night seemed over-priced. With van life on site and a full campground, it didn’t have the quiet feel we expected.

We did our best to make the best out of the situation. We made sure they had everything that they needed. We refunded all their money and still received three stars. Three stars for no money sad!
