Anglers and boaters find direct access to the St. Lawrence River at Keewaydin State Park Campground, which operates seasonally from late May through early September. The 30-site campground sits along the riverbank near Alexandria Bay, offering full hookups for RVs up to 30 feet and accommodating both drive-in and boat-in camping. Sites spread across an open layout with limited tree cover, providing unobstructed views across the water toward Canada.
The campground draws families seeking river recreation, though the exposed terrain means little natural shade. Fire rings and picnic tables equip each site, while restrooms and shower facilities serve the camping area. Reviewers consistently note the cleanliness of facilities and attentive staff presence. Rachel P. observes the park "sits along the St. Lawrence River in the Alexandria Bay Area" with Canada visible across the water, though notes the wide-open feel with minimal trees.
Swimming, fishing, and biking trails provide on-site activities, while the surrounding Thousand Islands region offers boat tours and historic attractions. Some visitors report occasional confusion with hookup reservations, so confirming site details when booking helps avoid issues. The $17 nightly rate includes access to recreational facilities.
Campers preferring more secluded, forested settings might consider Wellesley Island State Park Campground for a different atmosphere while staying in the same scenic river region.
Description
Keewaydin State Park is on the St. Lawrence River, offering excellent boating, fishing and, during the winter, ice fishing and cross-country skiing. The sheltered marina provides dock space for seasonal and transient visitors. Overlooking the river are 48 campsites. The park's terrain includes steep, rocky outcroppings between the campsites and the shoreline, providing vantage points for watching the ocean-going vessels traversing the river. The park also has a swimming pool and picnic areas.
