Kirtland AFB FamCamp

Kirtland Air Force Base FamCamp serves military personnel, retirees, and their families with full-hookup RV camping in Albuquerque. Access requires valid military ID and entry through the Truman Gate off Gibson Boulevard, which remains open 24/7 for authorized personnel. The campground operates under a 30-day maximum stay policy with rates around $25-35 per night.

Sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet and feature 30/50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. The layout alternates RV orientations so neighboring units don't face each other's utility connections directly. Reviewers consistently note the generous site sizes that easily fit large RVs plus two full-size vehicles. Half the sites sit under established trees while the newer section offers stone pads with minimal shade.

Two bathhouses serve the campground along with coin-operated laundry facilities that campers describe as clean and functional. A dedicated dog park and wash station accommodate pets, though visitors should watch for goat head stickers that can catch in paws and fur. "Facilities were clean and staff was friendly and helpful," notes Chris L.. Wildlife sightings are common throughout the campground.

For supply runs, several commercial camping options like Costco — Albuquerque operate nearby. Reservations are available but not always required depending on availability.

Solid Campground

Solid RV-focused campground. Half under trees and half in the open. Two bathhouses, laundry, and a dog park make this a nice, safe place to spend a couple of days.

Safe place to camp in Albuquerque

I had no concern for my safety staying on base. It does require military base access. It has clean bathrooms and is dog friendly. You will see plenty of wildlife as well. My only complaint is goat head stickers getting caught in my dogs paws and fur.

Nice Military FamCamp

This is a nice spot with lots of amenities, including a dog was station. The sites are a mix of nicely spaced and shaded with a ‘newer’ area that is all stone snug spaces with almost zero shade. Facilities were clean and staff was friendly and helpful.

No frills, clean, safe

We really enjoyed staying here. The sites closer to the park are nicer (trees etc). Laundry rooms clean, work very well. Sited are big and spacious. People that work here are so nice. Dog area and park are newer and nice. Would stay again for sure.

Great campground

We have stayed at the Fam Camp multiple times. The RV sites are huge. You could easily park two full size vehicles and a large RV with ease. Contrary to the previous review, Kirtland AFB has 24/7 access to all authorized persons via the Truman gate off of Gibson Blvd. There is 30 and 50 amp service available along with water and sewer. One nice feature is that the larger sites are alternate directions for parking, so you don't exit your rig and stare at your neighbors sewer hose.

Nice simple and clean.

Staying  at the Kirtland AFB fam-camp can be challenging. If you're active or retired military no problem if you're disabled vet some check in and out issues can arise. You must show up Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm to get access to the base. Show up after this and even if you've been there for 2 weeks you might get sent away till the base opens so you can speak with base command to tell the gate guards to let you in. Otherwise very nice park full hookups and only $25 a night but only 30day limit.
