## Overview

 Covered Bridge Campground is located in a thick forest along one of the most scenic drives in New Hampshire. This facility provides access to the heart of White Mountain National Forest and its many recreation opportunities such as hiking, biking, fishing and sightseeing. The quaint town of Conway is just 6 miles away and provides shops, restaurants and other conveniences. The White Mountains boast pristine forests, clear mountain streams and rivers and the tallest peaks in the Northeast. The forest encompasses nearly 800,000 acres in New Hampshire and western Maine, and is one of the most popular in the country.
## Recreation

 The adjacent Kancamagus Highway, referred to locally as \"the Kanc,\" is a National Scenic Byway that offers some of the best fall foliage viewing in New England. The 26.5-mile road connects the towns of Lincoln to the west and Conway to the east, and takes about one hour to drive from end to end. The cool, cascading Swift River is a great spot to wade or fish for brook trout during warm summer months. The area is extremely popular for hiking. The 3-mile Boulder Loop Trail and a 0.5-mile nature trail can be accessed near the campground. [Learn more][1] about recreation in the national forest.
## Facilities

 The facility is organized into two loops. Accessible vault restrooms and a hand pump for water are provided. No showers or dump station are available.
## Natural Features

 The campground is nestled in an old hardwood forest near the Swift River. The forest is home to many species of northern wildlife, including moose, white-tailed deer and black bear. Almost 200 species of birds, including the rare Bicknell's Thrush, live in the forest.

## Nearby Attractions

 The nearby towns of Conway and North Conway offer tours, shopping, restaurants and many other amenities. Within an hour drive, campers can access the Presidential Range, which consists of the tallest mountains in the forest, including the 6,288-ft. Mount Washington, the highest peak north of the Smoky Mountains and east of the Mississippi River. The White Mountains region hosts four alpine and five nordic ski areas, which provide year-round recreation opportunities.

Covered Bridge

This National Forest campground in Albany, NH is just west of Conway on the Kancamagus, which means it's a great location for hiking, tubing (Saco Rv in Conway), fishing, and even shopping; the choice is yours. To reach it from the Kanc, you'll need to cross the covered bridge where there's a height restriction. If your rig is &gt;7'9" you'll need to enter via Passaconaway Rd via West Side Rd in Conway \[heading north on 113/Main St, turn left just before the library and then after going through the Swift River covered bridge, turn left again on Passaconaway Rd\].

  

Some of these sites are reservable online, but others are first-come, first-served. If you're in a tent, the sites along the back side of the loop, up the hill, offer some extra privacy. These sites won't work for an RV, but the other sites will. This campground is a bit quieter than others along the Kanc because it is set apart by Passaconaway Rd. For services you have water and vault toilets; no hookups. Nearest showers are down the road at Jigger Johnson campground, but not until Memorial Day. For cell service, you'll need to head back into Conway; it is absent for most of the Kanc. If it's open and you're passing by, you can also get cell service near height of land on Bear Notch Rd, but this is closed until late spring.

  

Lower Falls and Rocky Gorge are nearby. If you're going to be in the area for a while, stop by the Saco Ranger Station and purchase a weekly parking pass for all the White Mountain National Forest parking areas/trailheads. Hiking opportunities abound. Popular nearby hikes include Champney Falls/Mt Chocura. Potash Mountain and Hedgehog Mountain are hikes with nice rewards for moderate effort. The Russell Colbath House offers ranger talks during high season.

Great location along the Kancamagus!

We visited this with our dog Oakley for his first time camping last fall. It was nice and quite because of the time of year and was perfect because we didn't know how he was going to do. He absolutely loved it and there was plenty of space in the tent site for him to roam around. This campground is one of the first campgrounds on the kancamangus which makes it extremely accessible for most. The site offers basic ammentities such as clean toilets. The swift river is in walking distance and offers a great place to relax after a long day in the New Hampshire woods. All in all it is a great local site like most run by the White Mountain Forest Service.

Covered Bridge 

Covered bridge is the best I have been going there for the past45+ yrs the host have always been great. Sites are clean and good size. This camp ground is with in walking distance to the river, with a lot of spots just for you and what I mean is you may never see anyone else. Just spent a week up there with the family.

Best camp ground on the kangk

Stayed at Covered Bridge on Labor Day weekend. We had site Cove 31 which is listed as an RV site. This site was very large. With our 20 foot trailer we could still fit our Ford 150 and Subaru Forrester in front of it and still had room for another car (but only two cars are allowed). This is a shady site and also near the toilets. The only two cons we had were: acorns dropping from the trees dented my daughters hood but not ours (choose your parking carefully) and the toilets needed to be emptied (vault toilets). The hosts were super friendly. Considering the campground was full all weekend it was fairly quiet with the exception of some noise from the Kanc (just over the Smith River). There is swimming/bathing in the Swift River but it was low (we are in a draught). Nearby to shopping or restaurants, but more importantly nearby hiking trails. Oh, the road in for RVs is not terrific. There is about a 1/2 mile that is mostly one lane (with a drop off on one side) and if someone is coming decisions have to be made.

Nice, Shady sites

We stayed at Covered Bridge one night. It is a great location relative to activities in the White Mountain National Forest. Extra bonus is the Boulder Loop Trail that is attached to the campground(it’s relatively short, offers several great vista views, and you can walk there from the campground and not have to deal with parking). The campground is clean and well kept. Pit toilets don’t bother me- they were very clean but if you struggle with using a pit or not having a shower, this isn’t your campground. The sites are quite large and have a good amount of space between them. Picnic tables and firepits are in great shape.

Another excellent USFS campground

Great campground well hidden between the river and the boulder loop trail. Perfect place to hike, relax by the water, then into a comfy compground. 

Very spotty Verizon cell coverage and no TMobile service at all.  Better coverage for both carriers near the top of the boulder loop trail. 

Water access is via a hand pump in the middle of the campground loop. No car access and can't hook up any hoses. 
Toilets (no water) and trash dumpsters throughout. 

Covered bridge has 7.9' height restriction from the main scenic highway. We had to go out to Conway and drive back in.


Hike and water

The campground itself is very pretty and the sites are large and level. The hosts were very friendly and we enjoyed talking to them. The restrooms were the only thing we really have to complain about. They were smellier than some vault toilets I’ve used and we really didn’t like that they have no sanitizer in them, and thought it was ironic since there’s COVID signs to wash your hands frequently on all the bathroom doors.... regardless, the campground location is great - close to towns and many trails. Make sure to hike Boulder Loop - we hopped on straight through the woods from our campsite. All in all, a nice quiet campground and we would return.
