Nauman Tentsite

Nauman Tent Site is managed by caretakers and operates on a first-come, first-served basis during the regular hiking season. No advance reservations are taken for the individual tent platforms. During peak season (typically late spring through fall), the site is staffed by friendly caretakers who collect fees on-site. Nauman Tent Site offers several tent platforms for camping in the White Mountains. The site features a composting toilet that's kept very clean, and bear boxes are provided for secure food storage. There's a natural spring that runs past the site for water access, though filtering is recommended. While the site maintains a rustic backcountry feel, campers can find additional resources at the nearby mountain hut, which may offer limited services to non-guests during operating seasons.

Nauman Tent Site is located in the White Mountains along popular hiking routes. It's accessible via a moderate 2.7-mile hike from the AMC Highland Center, making it an achievable destination even for families (one hiker completed it with a 5-year-old). The site serves as an excellent base camp for summit attempts, positioned just 0.8 miles from Mount Pierce summit and 1.6 miles from Mount Jackson summit. En route to the campsite, hikers can enjoy Gibbs Falls as a scenic stop. The tentsite's strategic location makes it ideal for multi-day hiking adventures along connecting trails.

Nauman Tent Site requires proper food storage in the provided bear boxes to prevent wildlife encounters. Camping is only permitted on the designated tent platforms, not in surrounding areas. Quiet hours are typically enforced, and group size limitations may apply. Fires are not allowed at this backcountry site, so campers should bring appropriate camp stoves for cooking. As with all White Mountain backcountry sites, Leave No Trace principles must be followed, including packing out all trash. The on-site caretakers enforce these regulations and collect the required camping fees.
