Truly W. notes the area is "overall quiet except for the trains nearby which honk every hour or so." The campground backs up to agricultural land, providing open views toward surrounding farmland. A dump station operates near the town library, approximately six blocks from the camping area.

Campers can stay two nights without charge, with a $10 fee for additional nights. The arrangement works well for those touring the Chimney Rock Pioneer Crossing area, located just over three miles south.

Many campers appreciated the level gravel sites with full electrical hookups and excellent value with free camping for two nights. The park across the street offers great family amenities including playgrounds and open space, though some noted mixed noise levels from traffic and trains.

Great little park

A great little park in a small town of friendly people. Good water and power that are free with a free dump station next to the town library. The dump site also has water available. There is a small gas station with comparable prices so we fueled up before we left town.

Cute park, RV/Van spots

This spot is basically three gravel RV spots next to a park. The park was nice and the gravel was pretty flat. It has a dumpster, port-a-potty, shaded tables, and a water spigot. Overall quiet except for the trains nearby which honk every hour or so. I’m not sure if you could tent camp here or not.

Great quite place to stay

Level graveled spot across from nice park

Graveled spot level enough that I didn't bother to make adjustments. each power post offers 50, 30, & 20 amp connections. Park across the street makes this spot worth staying at. Manicured LARGE lawn was begging me to run barefoot! Playground with swings, slides, & merry-go-round at the far end of the park next to a retired steam locomotive! There was also a pool & tennis courts which I can only assume will open later in the spring or early summer. (I stayed the 1st week of May) Take advantage of the park & the price!

Quiet gem in a near ghost town

Hidden gem! This quiet little park is nestled back in a residential area and backs up to beautiful farmland. Three electrical/water sites are located on gravel across from the City park. The park has lush green grass, trees, small playground and pool. You can stay two nights for free, additional nights for a fee. The town of Bayard has very little to offer. Many of the businesses have closed down. This campground is great for visiting nearby Chimney Rock and Scott’s Bluff National Monument.

Great place to stop

Some local traffic in front of the 3 parking pads, but for free you can't beat it. Obscured view of chimney rock. Dump station is 6 blocks away. Large park with tables across the street.

Mostly level gravel spaces for 3 RVs.

These spaces are close together but across a narrow street from a beautiful city park. There is a large covered area with several picnic tables and a well maintained grass area for the kids/pets. Both 30 and 50 amp electrical hookups at each site along with water. No sewer. No toilets. No showers. Beautiful area. Within 4 miles of Chimney Rock. We stayed 3 nights.

City camping?

We had some difficulty locating this park and eventually asked a local where it was (Google maps will not direct you to the right place; the “campground” is located on East 11th Street and First Avenue). It is located uphill from the downtown area so don’t confuse it with another city park closer to downtown. Now, to review the campground. Western Nebraska campgrounds are unlike other places we are used to – perhaps it is because of summer heat (and biting flies) but most seem to be geared toward RVs. This one has three "sites", although they are not separated in any way save for the electrical and water hook-ups. Just room for three rigs on a gravel area. No tents for sure. Across the street from these “sites” is a nice lawn area with lots of trees and a covered picnic pavilion, which could make your stay more pleasant, as long as a group isn’t using it. There was a persistent barking dog nearby while I was checking it out. About the only redeeming thing I can think of for this place is the price: free for the first two nights but you would need to pay$10 per night after (I guess to discourage people from living there). Close to Chimney Rock and about 25 miles from Scotts Bluff but otherwise not much in the area.
