Tolland State Forest Campground

Swimming and fishing enthusiasts will find direct water access at Tolland State Forest Campground, situated on a peninsula extending into Otis Reservoir. The DCR-managed facility operates from mid-May through mid-October, offering both tent sites and RV accommodations with full hookups for rigs up to 30 feet. Sites include bear boxes, fire rings, and picnic tables, with most featuring dirt and pine needle ground cover rather than gravel.

The campground's location on the reservoir provides multiple waterfront sites where campers can launch kayaks directly from their spots. A small sandy swimming area includes a pavilion and grills, while the reservoir itself supports various water activities. Cheryl B. notes "Lots of activity in the water" and describes the beach area's family-friendly setup. Three comfort stations provide flush toilets and hot showers, with reviewers consistently reporting clean facilities and reliable hot water.

Site spacing varies throughout the campground, with some waterfront locations along Sargent Road positioned closer together than interior sites. Wildlife sounds are common, including geese honking at night and owls calling around midnight. The $17 nightly rate includes access to hiking trails within the state forest. Campers seeking additional options in the region can explore campgrounds around Tolland for different amenities or settings.

Great Lakeside Campground

This was only my second camping trip ever (and first tent camping) so grain of salt here - We had a great time at Tolland. The site was spacious and equipped with a bear box, fire ring, and picnic table. The ground at the site was large gravel which was not great in the tent, but walking around it looks like most sites are more dirt and pine needles.

The swimming area is small but sandy, great for kids, and my daughter loved thethe campfire and nature talk given on Saturday night by park staff.

great campground

This is a very nice campground

the bathroom was clean and well equipped with toilet paper and soap

we stayed at site 70 which was very spacious and set back from the road so had more privacy, although site 71 is very close by so had we had neighbors in that site privacy would have been much less. It was a little bit of a walk to the bathroom but not too bad and there was a water fountain/pump not too far either

the waterfront sites I saw on sargent road looked much less private - some close to the road and small and it looked like a lot of sites were very close to each other but perhaps the ones farther from the road that I couldn't see as well weren't as on top of each other

we did hear geese honking for a lot of the night which was a bit annoying but overall it was a wonderful experience at Tolland Forest Campground

Great place!

We just went for one night; our first time there. We are used to ocean camping (spoiled) and have been looking for inland camping on a lake. Sites can be close but nice variety to choose from. We went fall camping and it was fantastic cooking on the open fire.

Great place to relax

Beautiful clean campground All the sites are spacious. The site is on a peninsula in Otis reservoir. Lots of activity in the water! Small area of sandy beach with a pavilion and grills. The comfort stations have flush toilets and there are only three hot showers within the campground. Never had an issue with waiting! Plenty of hot water! I only found one water faucet to get water. Owls hooting every night around midnight.

Friendly, Spacious lots of waterfront sites, some noise from boat traffice

We love Tolland and have had good luck securing lakefront sites. We have brought out kayaks and took off right from the site. There are rocks to get into the water but the water is clean and not mucky. The bathhouses have always been clean with sinks to wash your dishes. There is plenty of vegetation between sites. There are some easy hikes nearby also. Great for our dogs also.
